253/365: more raindrops on a different fuchsia!

I spent most of yesterday watching the TV coverage of events following the death of our Queen, so another emotional day. I haven't quite got my head around the fact that we are witnessing history in real time with the declaration of a period of National Mourning and the commencement of the protocols surrounding the accession to the throne of our new King.

All of which means I didn't get much done. I was able to message the U3A so am waiting to hear back from them, and I was lucky enough to place a supermarket order and get a delivery slot for later today. I've ordered most of the things I need to restock the cupboards and freezer which will give me plenty more options for meals for the next few months. I've still have some more batch cooking to do and have a few things to pick up from Aldi or Lidl, but will leave that until next week now.

I've made a note in my diary that there are four local building open as part of the Heritage Open Days festival but I'm not sure whether I will go to see any of them or not. There's only one, Parade House, that I've never seen before and that's because it's only recently been reopened for public access so I'm sure I will be able to see it at some time in the future if I choose not to go today. I can't summon up the enthusiasm for it just now as the happenings in London are claiming my attention.

  1. More beautiful flowers! It's raining a bit, here, too! Maybe I'll be able to photograph some raindrops on leaves, tomorrow - not many flowers in the garden, right now.
Glad you were able to get a grocery order in for delivery.
I, too, have been watching some news coverage of the passing of the Queen and the new King's first speech, etc. You are right; we are eye witnesses to news!
By the way, I have stopped receiving notification of your new blog posts! I don't know if it is just for your blog or all other blogs (so far, the ones I regularly read haven't posted new posts!); I'm hoping it is just a computer glitch!

    1. Wow, enjoy your rain! That's a change for you.

I was impressed by the King's first speech and it was lovely to see the welcome he received from the crowd when he arrived at Buckingham Palace.

I think there may be a Blogger issue. The link to your blog in my sidebar has dropped to the bottom as it doesn't seem to recognise new posts, and when I try to access your blog via that link all I can see is a page full of HTML script. Eileen seems to have the same problem when accessing my blog (see comment below).

  2. Same as Bless the link to your blog in my sidebar disappeared but hopefully just another Blogger glitch, I'll try and replace it.
It was very sudden and so sad to lose our Queen and I shed a few tears at the news. It's good for us that King Charles is immediately in place as our monarch but it must be a very difficult time for him as it was for our dear Queen in 1952.

    1. I think it may be a Blogger issue. I've raised a query on their help page and am waiting for a response.

It must be hard for King Charles to have to hit the ground running when he's only just lost his mother. I was impressed by his speech yesterday and thought he did well controlling his emotions.

  3. It feels hard to tear yourself away from the changes in our nation. I'm glad that you got stocked up. I guess the delivery services will be busy.

    1. I was supposed to be going shopping and looking for some different meal ideas but ... we're seeing history being made and I can't drag myself away, so opted for a delivery instead!

  4. I've just got here via Bless' Two Cents, after seeing your comment on her post saying Blogger is to blame for the problems. When I couldn't get into your blog yesterday and this morning, I thought you might have removed it for the mourning period or something! Ironically I had my Reasons to be Cheerful ready for Thursday evening but it felt crass to post them. Perhaps I'll do so later. I feel as if I am in some kind of limbo, waiting for something but don't know what.

Like you I have been completely distracted by national events - constantly checking the TV and computer for updates. I've taped hours of stuff and was up into the small hours watching it, then again this morning. Partly it's a need to process what has happened but, since today, also a fascination with the traditions and processes put in place to cement the transition. I feel less anxious about the Queen's loss after the King's first actions. Let us hope things go as smoothly as ever possible. I'm wondering about paying a visit to London but am as yet undecided.

    1. It looks like the Blogger issue has been resolved now as I am able to access all the blogs I was having problems with. Phew!

So far I've been really impressed by the King. I think he'll surprise us all as he settles into his new role. It'll be interesting to see how he continues with his modernisation of the monarchy and also the role Camilla takes. I like her and think she'll do well as his consort. Of course it does depend on how the media behave and whether they support him!
