Tuesday 13th September

I have no idea why, but I don't feel too good today. I must have eaten something that didn't agree with me, not idea what, but I had a bad night and have an upset tummy so can't stray too far from the lavatory ... apologies if you are eating your breakfast when your read this! I will definitely have to cancel my personal training today and luckily have already postponed my planned visit to Joy's home until next week.

In between watching yesterday's historic events I also spend some time thinking about Christmas ... apologies again, this time for mentioning the C word in September. I had already decided on the gifts I'll give this year but still had to come up with some more ideas for my own Twelve Days of Christmas gifts and I also to decide whether I want to make my own Advent Calendar this year. I did pretty well on coming up with ideas for the rest of the Twelve Days gifts so now will go and buy them as soon as possible ... if I wrap them now I will have forgotten what's in each parcel by the time I get to open them. I haven't decided on the homemade Advent calendar yet ... I always get the Jacquie Lawson online calendar so do I really need another? I think it all depends on how and where I decide to celebrate Christmas, but that's a decision still to be made.

My SMART meter, the gas one, has somehow dropped it's connection to the hub which means that my gas supplier isn't getting any information about my usage. They are talking about estimated bills which I've vetoed and am insisting that it is sorted out straight away. With the current economic crisis I want to know exactly what I am using! After a fraught discussion with the customer service department ... apparently it's not possible to send an engineer to reset it and estimated bills are fine according to them ... I finally got through to someone sensible, who has emailed the steps I need to take to reconnect my meter to the hub. I had a go at doing it yesterday but the gas meter is at ground level and bending down to it set off the pains in my eyes and I had to give up. So I've asked S if he will try to sort it out for me and he's going to attempt it when he finishes work today ... fingers are crossed ... I could do without the worry!

It'll be another quiet day today. I will follow the some of the events today - I think King Charles will be in Ireland today so I'll watch that but don't particularly want to watch the Queen lying at rest in St Giles Cathedral. I'm planning to camp out on the sofa, catch up on my sleep and choose a book to read.

  1. I am making 24 little cloth bags for our advent calendar, we both enjoy the weeks before Christmas, and I love the simplicity of a tiny treat each day.

    1. The 24 cloth bags is a great idea. I have small boxes so will just need to refill them if I do decide to do a calendar this year.

  2. I hope you feel better soon and do have a restful day. I have resisted having a smart meter as it's no hassle to take the readings once a month on the 17th and submit them online. I keep a page as a running total so I can see what I have used each month, I couldn't be doing with checking it daily. I hope you can get yours connected again today and I don't blame you not wanting estimated bills. I have made a small start on buying presents, September is a good month to start thinking about it.

    1. Thanks Eileen. I opted for the smart meters as I thought it would be easier to monitor my usage and that has proved to be the case up till now. I don't need to do daily readings, I just check the usage on the in-home monitor and it's all be very easy.

Will Tilly get a Christmas gift?

  3. Oh I do hope you are feeling better soon. I've had a few rough nights & dickie tummy for the last few days - I think it is for me, the emotional rollercoaster ride of watching so much coverage of the Queen's passing & the beginnings of Charles III's reign. OR it could be the definite shift in weather. I don't mind you using the C word at all (anytime of the year is fine for me). I'm not sure I want to do Jacquie's online advent calendar this year, we have been so disappointed in it these last couple of years but what would I do as a replacement???? A day on the sofa, with reading & napping at will, sounds a perfect cure for you. Be well my friend.

    1. Thanks Mary-Lou. I don't think it's anything serious, probably a 24 hour thing. It's interesting what you say and it's possible that the emotions of the last few days has triggered this for me.

I'll get the Lawson online calendar this year as I like the games as much as anything else and if I do go away during December, it's easy to take it with me. Why not have a go at making your own?

  4. So sorry to hear that you're having an upset tummy; I hope you are feeling much better, now. Taking it easy and resting on the sofa with a book sounds like a good way to spend the day. Hope S is able to reconnect your gas meter.

    1. I'm not quite over it but am feeling better than I did thanks. I started reading a new book but mostly watched the TV coverage of the Royal Family. Thankfully S was able to reconnect the gas meter so will see whether it's right when I get my next monthly bill.

  5. Sometimes stress and upset can upset a tummy. Perhaps it's the shock of losing the Queen, and it is a shock. It's like old certainties have gone and we are still groping for new ones. Whatever the cause, I hope that you feel better soon.

    1. Yes, I think the shock and upset has had a lot to do with it. It's easing off now, so I'm hoping to feel better once I catch up with my sleep. Thanks Lyssa x

  6. I've got a bit behind in reading and commenting so my apologies for not realising you have not been well - I hope you're feeling better now (Thursday).
Well done for getting the meter reconnected. xx

    1. Thanks Joy. Yes I am feeling better, just not quite 100% yet. I had an update bill emailed to me today so the meter is communicating properly at their end at least. Today's challenge is to get my monitor showing the correct information! xx
