Tuesday 14th December

There's only one thing in the diary for today and that to try out an online social event organised by Mirthy. This one is 'coffee and crossword', and from what was said at the recent coffee morning, I think that all the attendees will put their heads together to solve a cryptic crossword provided by the organiser. It's a 'testing the water' event for me - I like doing cryptic crosswords and it's something I did with Ced every day throughout our relationship. We used to do the daily crossword over the course of the day solving a few clues every time we stopped for coffee or during the advert breaks, but this will be a different approach as we'll be solving the entire crossword in one hour long session and I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy that approach. It's worth a try anyway.

H texted me yesterday to arrange a Zoom meeting so she can tell us about her 2022 photography challenge. We'd already committed to a small cost, i.e. £20, and a parcel arrived from her yesterday which is presumably what the money was for. I don't know what it is yet as we are under strict instructions to wait to open it during the Zoom meeting ... it is book shaped though. She confirmed last night that the meeting will be on Friday and that's when she'll reveal the details of the challenge. All I know so far is that it is a year long challenge, there are four of us taking part (H, myself and two others), it seems to require a book, and that we will be meeting up at various times during the year, Covid and weather permitting. I feel quite excited about it and whatever the challenge is, it will be something to look forward to during 2022.

Something else to look forward to next year is that Joy has challenged herself to do another blog 365, taking a daily photo throughout 2022. She's much better at completing this sort of challenge than I am but I've invited myself to join her on the challenge in the hope I'll complete it this time! Joy is undecided whether to post daily or weekly but I will be posting daily as that's the only way I'll stay focused.

It's supposed to be dry today so I'm going out for a walk as soon as I've had my breakfast and meds. I feel in need of some fresh air. When I get back the two things to focus on today are piano practice and to finish reading the book club choice for Friday.

  1. The photography challenge sounds really exciting with a mystery book-shaped parcel to open on Friday. I hope it's fine for you today too, we've had nothing but rain day after day and I understand your need to get out for some fresh air. Enjoy your day.

    1. I think the photography challenge will provide opportunities for a lot of fun throughout next year. H, who's organising it, will have come up with lots of great ideas and I'm really looking forward to taking part.

It's rained here as well so I dodged the raindrops to walk in the garden for a few minutes. At least I got some fresh air that way. I hope you have a good day too.

  2. It sounds like you have several challenges ahead of you. Depending on how it is organized, a group puzzle challenge sounds fun to me as everyone can feed off of everyone else. And I would love to be disciplined enough to do a daily photo challenge . . . hmmm, maybe I need to consider that as well.

    1. My previous attempts at a daily photograph now provide a snapshot of my life and remind me of things I would otherwise have forgotten so, for that reason alone, it's worth doing. I post every day anyway so it doesn't take that much time to take and add a daily photo to every post.

I'll report back on the crossword event. It'll all depend on how it's organised but I hope it'll be fun.

  3. Sounds like some fun challenges that will engage you on so many levels. I wonder if the idea for H's 2022 photo challenge is to produce a book at the end of it of everyone's photos. I like the idea of a photo a day for 2022, but I already know I would fall at the first hurdle ... I struggle doing a photo of the day for December Daily (POTD). Hope the online puzzle group proves to be a fun way to do a puzzle.

    1. I'm looking forward to next year's challenges. With the way Covid numbers are increasing in the UK I think it's unlikely I will be able to do any of the adventures I've been planning, so the photography challenge that H is organising will be a different, but equally as fun, way of remaining involved with others.

I understand what you mean about the photo a day but, for myself, the discipline of taking a photo every day is a habit I want to embed in my life. Joy will have my permission to nag me if I don't keep up with it!

The crossword group was a bit chaotic but promising for future sessions if a couple of minor tweaks are made.

  4. Reading through the comments, I see that you have already had the crossword group; hope future sessions will be less chaotic and your enjoyment of them will increase. :)

The photography challenge sounds like it will be fun! I wonder what's in the package? The 365/daily photo challenge sounds fun, too! I'm looking forward to your daily photos! :)

    1. They emailed asking for feedback on the crossword session so I responded to that. It'll be interesting to see if they take notice of the feedback.

I'm keen to find out what the challenge involves. I've been good and haven't opened the package but it is tempting! I've started the 365 challenge a few times but have only completed it once so time will tell how I do this year!

  5. How exciting the photography challenge sounds! I'll be interested in hearing all about it.

I did a 365 photo challenge in 2020 and did really well. I picked a theme and decided to use my phone. I completed it every day. I was going to do one this year but ended up dropping out. With Mum getting sick and dying, and all that went on I just didn't have the heart to keep up with it. I might try again next year. I liked the way I did it in 2020 as I found it fun and not at all stressful.

    1. I'll let you know as soon as I know, but it has got me feeling all enthusiastic about photography again. H, who's organising it, is completely crazy so it could be anything ... I didn't even know she is interested in photography!

The 365 challenge is something I start off doing well and then it tails off, so I am determined to do better this time. I hope you do decide to do it again in 2022.
