Monday 20th December
I've given up on the decluttering until next year now and have the last few days in the lead up to Christmassy set aside for some Christmas events, visiting family and friends, and a couple of trips to town.
Today was supposed to be carols by candlelight outside of the church in the village where one of my friends lives but it's been cancelled because of Covid numbers in the area. It's a shame but I think that these sort of cancellations are to be expected, so we will still meet though I don't know what we'll do instead. I'm waiting to hear back from her as she has her elderly mother living with her so keeping a door or window open for ventilation isn't an option with the temperature as low as it is. The other things in the diary for today are the online community coffee group this morning and a book club games and quiz this afternoon, and I'm looking forward to both.
In between I need to do a bit of housework so the downstairs at least looks clean and tidy. I'm hoping that I won't have any unexpected visitors over the holiday season but know that it is likely so will get on with the hoovering and dusting today. Once the street lights come on I'd like to go for a wander around the estate and takes some photos for my monthly photo challenge.
I know they recommend keeping your windows open so fresh air can remove any virus from rooms but I can't do it either as it's too cold and you can't let heat escape. What a shame the carol service has been cancelled, I expect that's going to be the norm again this year. Enjoy your online sessions today they sound like fun.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame about the cancellation but I am half expecting it to happen for a number of other things in the diary as well ... as you say, it's the norm for this year at least.
DeleteThanks, I'm especially looking forward to the book club quiz.
It's a sensible decision, isn't it, even if outside. A shame but . . . it is what it is!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day anyway!
xx
Thanks Joy. Yes it is the sensible decision but a shame all the same. xx
DeleteI think shelving the de-clutter project until after the New Year is a good idea - you have done so well sor far. This side of the pond, restrictions have once again been reinstated especially around gathering indoors or out. Shops are again at 50% capacity, no food or drink to be served in sporting arenas, movie theatres or bingo halls (this one always make me laugh, but apparently the eating & drinking there are high sales; who knew). Many restaurants voluntarily closed to indoor dining in our region. Indoor limits are at 10 so that means a lot of families are having to cancel some parts of their Christmas celebrations. Let's call it a re-installment of the Christmas cancel program, 2020.2 My money is on a total lockdown "Circuit Breaker" for 2 weeks just after Christmas. An evening walk to see Christmas lights sounds a wonderful festive activity.
ReplyDeleteThe media is suggesting that Boris will make a statement tonight but the government website ahs no mention of this. I'm resigned to the fact that the rising numbers mean that action will need to be taken but am hoping that families can still get together for Christmas, more for others than for myself.
DeleteYes, definitely take a break from decluttering until after the new year. My decluttering isn't going that well this month, but, the charity pick up is still scheduled for the 22nd so I'm going to try and do one more sweep through of the house, before that. There are a few items I know could go, but, I'm not sure if I am ready to let go of them, yet! That is always my problem!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that plans for caroling had to be cancelled. We are still being told it's OK to gather in small groups as long as everyone is vaccinated. We shall see how that turns out! Hope you've have a pleasant rest of the day, Eileen.
Good luck with sorting out some more decluttering before the collection but you have done well so far so you should be pleased with your efforts.
DeleteI 'met' with my friend via Zoom instead as she didn't want to leave her mum for too long (she lives about an hours drive away). I think these sort of cancellations are to be expected and I'm resigned to the possibility of more of my planned jollies being cancelled for the same reason. I think our government has backed themselves into a corner with the leaks about them breaking the rules by holding parties, so have a strong suspicion that their failure to order stricter restrictions to address the Omicrom threat is more to do with protecting their image rather than doing what the country needs to do.
I'm sorry the concert was cancelled. It seems as though just when we start thinking things will get a little better it starts all over again. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYes, it seems like it'll never end. It's difficult to know what to do and who to listen to.
