Wednesday 8th December

It's a decluttering free day today ... I've given myself the day off!

M may be here later to see to the garden; I left it to her to choose a day and time that suits her, so it's either today or tomorrow but I don't know which day or what time. It's forecast to rain on both days so I have no wish to go out and will amuse myself at home. I don't envy M working outside on a wet day in these temperatures but she didn't want to cancel when I gave her the option ... she either loves gardening or is completely crazy!

It's the nutrition club this morning, followed by my weekly piano lesson. I've practiced so much this week! The piece with the pedalling is reasonably fluent - the pedal has a really piercing squeak which sets my teeth on edge so I'm not enjoying the learning experience at present. I may chat with C and suggest postponing learning the pedalling until I've bought the new piano but that may be too long to wait. I'll go by what she says. Silent Night now miraculously sounds like the well know carol, and the first half of Past Three O'Clock, which is all I've worked on so far, is okay but two bars in the bass clef are still defeating me. More practice is needed!

As for the rest of the day ... I'll probably carry on with the family tree and I also want to finish the book I'm reading so I can make a start on the one for the book group review next week.

  1. M is a very dedicated gardener!

Sounds like you are making very good progress with your piano pieces! I am not familiar with "Past Three O'Clock" and had to look it up.

You've a busy day ahead of you! Enjoy!

    1. Yes, she is. I'm quite sad that I won't see her now for a few months but there really is nothing for her to do.

At the moment the piano playing is going well and I feel I am making steady progress. I'm still enjoying it which is the most important thing. Do you think your lessons will ever restart?

  2. My guess is that M loves gardening! Sounds like your piano lessons and practice are paying dividends and I'm sure you are longing to have your new piano in your home.

    1. Yes, I agree. I think she's a great combination of crazy and garden loving!

I was lucky to find a teacher I get on so well with and to me, it is worth the time and money. I can't wait to get the new piano 😀

  3. Bravo to M's dedication. Good for you sticking with your piano practice, I am sure your teacher will be duly impressed.

    1. I second that, although she did say it was just as cold in her home because her heating oil delivery has been delayed and she has no heat.

Yes, C was suitably impressed 😊

  4. Everyone deserves a day off now and again so good for you.
I am sure both Silent Night and Past Three o'Clock sound lovely and very festive. How annoying about the squeak though.

    1. Thanks Joy.

Both carols are getting there! Silent Night is sounding the best but Past Three O'Clock isn't too far behind. Playing carols on Christmas Eve is going to be one of my new traditions 😊

I'm trying to ignore the squeak and at least I know it's only for a few months longer xx

  5. Oooo, a squeaky pedal would be an unwelcome assist on learning the pedaling. Maybe a squirt of oil could help?

    1. In this case, unfortunately oil isn't the solution. C, the piano teacher, started her career as a piano tuner/repairer and she says this particular issue is to do with the felts around the pedal. It won't be that long until I buy the new piano so I can live with it in the short term and anyway, at this stage in my learning I won't have that many pieces requiring pedals.
