Thursday 2nd December

Yesterday's piano lesson was good fun and the two pieces I'd prepared passed inspection so I have new pieces to work on this week. One piece was set by C and introduces pedalling; this is quite a short piece and I can play it hands together straight away so just need to work on developing some sort of control on the pedalling side of things ... in my first attempt it feels like this is one thing too many to have to co-ordinate! Best of all though is that we are starting on Christmas carols. I don't have a huge selection of carol piano music so, for starters, it's a choice between Silent Night, Away in a Manager, and Past Three O'Clock. I only have to work on one this week so will probably start with Silent Night. I'm just happy to have the opportunity to play some carols and will invest in a better selection for next year. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

There are three online classes in the diary for today - the Indian cookery and an Age Well class are both this afternoon. This morning I'm trying out a new one run by Mirthy, which is a Community Coffee Morning. I have no idea what it'll be like but it's free and is something different so I'll give it a go!

It's supposed to be sunny today but with a high of only 4°C I'll be wrapping up warm if I go out for a walk. I'll probably head over to the marina if I do venture out, but that's still be decided ... I don't do 'cold'!

At sometime during the day I'd like to devote some time to listing ideas for some adventures in the new year. I've applied for my bus pass so will be looking at bus routes and journey times to see where I could go without needing to change buses too often, as well as looking at options using the train or a combination of bus and train. Whether I actually get to make the journeys depends on the Covid situation but the planning will be fun for now!

  1. Half the fun is the planning, I think.
I might 'see' you at those two Goldster classes, they are on my list too.

Well done with the piano. It is nice to be able to play carols. I wish I had a keyboard - maybe next year . . . but where would it go?
    xx

    1. Hi Joy, I've just watched the Indian cooking class but don't drink tea in any form so won't be trying today's recipes. I did think of you when she mentioned how festive the first recipe was though!

I agree, the planning part is half the fun. Would you have space for a keyboard/digital piano in your spare bedroom that's not a bedroom?

    2. It's not something I would make either - in fact i felt slightly yuck at the thought. She seems a pleasant lady though.

    3. She is lovely and I do like her classes. She shares lots of tips when she's cooking curries and her classes have definitely helped improve me. I now cook one of her recipes instead of having a takeaway delivery. Today's offering was in response to requests from some of the regulars but, like the Indian desserts, it was too sweet and sickly for me. xx

  2. Well done on the piano lessons! Silent Night is a good carol to learn to play. :)
Community coffee morning sounds good! Hope you'll share some tips on aging well for those of us who are older! :D
Enjoy the planning of adventures in the new year! I hope you will be able to do some of them, safely. :)

    1. If I was only allowed to choose one, then Silent Night would be my choice. I've always loved it, though my version on the piano leaves a lot to be desired at the moment ... lots more practice, I think!

The Community Coffee Morning was very good and I will add it to me list of regular events. The Age Well class is later so will share some tips with the golden oldies (i.e. you) tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I will enjoy planning some new adventures and in some ways it's as much fun as actual doing what I've planned. I'm assuming the new variant will mean next year will be as difficult as this year has been, so will plan accordingly.

  3. A community coffee morning sounds lovely as does ageing well :) It was very wet and windy here again yesterday and very cold, a sunny day sounds good as long as you are wrapped up well. I hope your bus pass arrives soon so you can get out and about further afield.

    1. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Community Coffee Morning but I enjoyed it as will do it again. the Age Well classes so far have been very informative, not necessarily new information but more of a timely reminder.

It's cold here today so the walk was shorter than I'd planned, but I did make it out of the house. The sun is surprisingly bright, just no warmth to be had from it.

I think there is a delay in issuing the bus passes so I'm not expecting it before Christmas and will lock on it as a bonus if it does turn up any earlier.

  4. Oh having a bus pass opens all kinds of adventures. My Gran use to just get on the first bus that stopped at her station & just rode it to see where it was going. The good thing was that the buses just looped around but usually took a couple of hours to do it. Yeah to playing Christmas music, I envy your skill at being able to play the piano.

    1. The bus pass and the railcard I'll buy as and when the Covid situation eases in this country, are both key to my plans for more adventures and will take me to places that are that bit farther from home than I want to drive. I spent a little time this morning looking for place and things of interest in the Oxford area. I like your Gran's mystery trip idea though, so that's a possibility.

You wouldn't have thought I could play the piano at all if you heard me this morning! It sounded dreadful. I only just recognised the tune and I knew what I was playing! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. The online classes help to fill my days now I'm not socialising as much as I did pre-pandemic. I like the variety and they keep me out of mischief! I love planning new adventures ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Christmas carols sound like lots of fun. I am not familiar with Past 3 o'clock; I'll have to look into that one. How you manage all the others things you keep up with, I just do not know. You have quite the schedule.

    1. I remember Past Three O'Clock from when I sang in a church choir and every time I hear it it brings back happy memories.

I live alone and most friends are still working, so days can be long if I don't keep myself busy. Things will ease up when I conquer the remainder of the decluttering. x
