258/365: pink osteospermum

Well I spoke to the gas supplier and they have assured me that my meter is communicating with the hub even though it doesn't look like it is at my end. Apparently my monitor should reset itself before too long! I'll believe it when I see my next bill.

The nutrition club was interesting but not the session on eating and cooking economically I was expecting. Apparently there will now be a series of sessions looking at all aspects of living frugally, not just the nutrition side of things, and so will include some of the other subject leaders. The replacement session was still good, looking a foodie blogs and sharing ideas, but I was still a bit disappointed by the change.

I was supposed to be going to the Family History open day at the Records Office in Chippenham today but have decided against it. I still don't feel 100% and think it's silly to overdo things, especially as I can go to the Records Office any time I choose to. My other idea was to go up to London but have decided against that as well ... the crowds will be horrendous and I very much doubt that my knee will cope well with all the standing around.

So it's another day at home. As a priority I need to book some appointments - Covid booster, eye health check, vision check (I know I need new glasses!), and a GP appointment ... I already have an appointment for my flu/pneumonia jab. Three of those will be easy to arrange but I bet I'll fail to get a GP appointment! I have to post the next lot of birthday cards and, depending on how I feel, I have some bits and pieces of shopping to pick up so I'll aim to get them done and out of the way this morning. Oh, and refill the petrol tank as I forgot to do that when I checked the tyres.

Then it's a day to do pretty much whatever I fancy. I will have the TV on but I don't want to spend too much time watching the Queen lying in state so will make the effort to do something else ... reading? piano? photographs? ... all possibilities but I'll see how it goes.

  1. I'm sorry you're still not back to 100%. I've been too stuck to the telly too but there's not much happening today (unless you are one of the hardy souls queueing to 'pay their respects'. I'm definitely not. The though of all that queueing, overnight too . . . just no! xx

    1. Thanks Joy. I think it's probably more to do with needing some fresh air and a good night's sleep now. I've decided against going to pay my respects... the length of the queue was the deciding factor for me! xx

  2. Glad to hear that the gas meter is communicating with the gas supplier's hub! Too bad the nutrition class had a different discussion from what you had been expecting, but, I guess frugal living is a topic all by itself! I'm sorry you are still not feeling 100%, but, good idea to stay home and rest! Hope you have a lovely day, Eileen.

    1. I'm relieved to get that side of it sorted out before the price increase kick in. The change to the nutrition class was frustrating but at least it hasn't been cancelled completely, just postponed.

I've finished my chores for the day, have had a good sleep and am feeling much better now thanks Bless. Another easy day should see me right.

  3. Yes maybe a walk outside in some fresh air will do you good & as I always say "it can't hurt" (col). I've signed two books of condolences on line, on in Britain, one in Canada. I don't think I'd want to stand in line for hours although I like the idea of walking past the Queen's coffin ... as for living frugally, I always hear my Gran's voice "want isn't need" & it has served me well when I think I must have something, I pause in purchase & have a good think about it. Although in this latest market I joke Mr Man & I will be taking turns on the days we eat!

    1. It's not as warm today but I spent some time out in the garden and also when I did my bits of shopping. I've been doing my daily walks inside while I wasn't feeling well so it felt good to get outside again.

I've signed one of the online books of condolences. I'd like to have gone to the lying in state but the length of time queuing and the distance to walk as the queue gets longer would all be too much for me now so I've settled for watching it on TV.

I've got a lot better at only buying what I need but any tips for saving costs in cooking methods, recipes, household methods are always appreciated.

  4. Sending hugs. A poorly do can really drain you. I wonder if they feel that they have to do a bigger coverage on frugal living with all that is happening. They may be adjusting their schedule. Take care, and good luck with the appointments.

    1. Thanks Lyssa. They've been doing a few 'specials' recently. One was coping with change in light of the Queen's passing, the new King and a new Prime Minister all happening at the same time. It'll be interesting to see what advice they give on economising during an economic crisis.

I made all the appointment bar one ... no luck with the GP!

  5. Absolutely no way could I join a queue for hours on end to walk past the Queen's coffin. King Charles will be visiting Wales today (Friday) so I may well be watching the television again, I'm glad he had a day to himself yesterday, he's had a punishing week both physically and emotionally and I felt for his sons walking behind their grandmother's coffin, reminders of twenty five years ago when their mother died..
I'm one step ahead of you, I have had yet another Covid jab appointment sent to me and they will do the flu jab at the same time. I've had my annual eye test and pick up my new glasses tomorrow. I hope you managed to get all your appointments sorted.

    1. I couldn't cope with the queuing either but take my hat off to the ones who have managed it. Apparently the King was meeting diplomats so it wasn't a complete rest day for him. Yes, I felt for William and Harry - it must have brought back memories of that day.

I've been able to make all my appointments, except for the GP consultation. I couldn't book the Covid and flu at the same time as the flu jab is done at my GP's surgery and the Covid jab is at one of the pharmacies in Westbury ... no idea why! The eye health check and vision test are being done in the same consultation so that's a plus.
