Thursday

I went to the garden centre again, unsupervised, and this is the result. I don't now how it happened - one minute I had an empty trolley and the next time I looked it was like this ...

... four new pots, extra cosmos (because you can never have too much cosmos!), lobelia, nemesia, and bacopa. I was looking for something for summer colour so this wasn't an entirely unplanned purchase but I just wasn't expecting to buy it today. On the other hand, I didn't get the ericaceous compost and garden canes I went in for so a return visit is on the cards ...

Before I hit the garden centre I went to Costa Coffee to collect my magic bag. I've been using the Too Good To Go app for some time but there hasn't been much happening locally until recently. This is the first time I've bought one of the bags, paying £3 for a bag of produce worth £10 that is at it's sell by date but obviously still fine to eat. T popped in on her way to work and we shared an early lunch in the garden so I just have the toastie left.

I don't know that I'd go for one of these regularly as the contents, while good value, aren't really what I want to be eating while I'm trying to lose weight. It was nice for a treat though. The other options locally are Morrisons, M&S, and a village shop, all of which include fruit and vegetables in their bags, and a local bakery which includes bread - I'll try one of those next.

I just have time to wash up and then it's the Indian Cookery class. I think it's lamb burgers on today's menu, so not something that immediately conjures up thoughts of India. Then I'm off out with my camera to take a few photos, some for SPSH and some for my monthly challenge. On the way home from the garden centre I saw an amazing graffiti being painted on the barrier that's blocking off a derelict factory. We don't often get graffiti of that quality in town so I want to photograph it while I can.

I'll need to get home reasonably early as the egg delivery is due later on, and then will spend a bit more time out in the garden. M is due tomorrow so I have to decide what I want her to do, and there's also the gravel and topsoil to be dealt with so I can make a start on that.

  1. You have had a fun visit to the garden centre. Those glazed pots look fantastic. I agree never can have enough Cosmos.

    1. They're actually plastic pots but look very like glazed pots. Now I've seen them in my garden I will go back and get some more ... and some more cosmos to put in them 😂😂

  2. Nice pots and plants from your garden cemtre visit. I've read a few blogs of people using the Too Good To Go app and it's a good idea to prevent food waste and I agree it's good for an occasional treat though I'm not tempted to try it myself. I hope you manage to photograph the graffiti, not something we see around where I live.

    1. Yes, I did and there'll be a photo in tomorrow's post.

The Too Good To Go is an excellent idea and I will consider the M&S Food and the Morrisons offers if I see them, but I don't really want the cakes and sandwiches ones. My friend enjoyed it and said she will start using the app herself as it'll save her some money on her food bill!

  3. Nice selection of pots and plants! I'm glad you picked up more cosmos plants! I loved that photo of your garden from a previous blog post, when it was full of cosmos. Sounds like you got a good deal by using your app and you were able to treat your friend to an early lunch as a result. :) Hope the rest of the day goes well and you enjoy the Indian cooking class.

    1. I will get some more cosmos if I can ... I love it!

The app is okay for the occasional treat but, as you just get what you're given, I wouldn't rely on it.

It's been a lovely day and the cookery class was great, thanks.

  4. I definitely think of lamb burgers as Indian! I hope they were good/worth trying.

Great haul from the garden centre. I was hoping for some self-set cosmos from last year, but so far: nowt.

Love the idea of that app but I see it is a pot-luck thing and, out of the things you got today, I could only have eaten one (and I can't see the whole label on that...)! Maybe other stores would be safer for me, if appropriate.

Will we be seeing the graffiti?

    1. Oh they looked delicious and I will make them one evening next week. She explained that it was the recipe for the kebab type dish cooked and served on the long metal skewers but that she was presented them as patties because it was easier. I don't have room in my kitchen to cook along with her so I always make the recipe at the weekend. I don't have enough minced lamb so need to go shopping before I can try this recipe

The app is pot luck so can't deal with allergies. You would only have been able to eat the one thing as the other three contained the thing you need to avoid. I'd decided that I give anything I couldn't eat to my sister but I was lucky this time and it didn't contain anything I was allergic to ... well, the cheese isn't ideal for me but I will chance it!

Yes, it will be in tomorrow's post.

I was really pleased with the garden centre goodies, especially the pots. I will try to get some more cosmos tomorrow as the new plants look so much stronger and healthier than the ones I bought earlier.

  6. Nice plants, Eileen. The same happens to me whenever I go the gardening center. Yesterday I was there, and was able to get out with just 3 bags of potting soil. I wanted to buy some perennials, but changed my mind.

    2. It very much depends on which day, we have quite a full week so far, but if I'm free when you go that would be great thanks.
