In the garden ...
I didn't get out to take any photos yesterday but for a lovely reason ... a surprise visit from P & L who were travelling back from Oxford earlier than planned and called in to see me on the way. It was just like old times, no advance planning, just a phone call to confirm I was a home. They arrived with a picnic, which we ate in the garden, and stayed for almost three hours ... what could be better than time spent with friends. I couldn't summon up the energy to go out once they'd left so pottered around at home for a while, watered the garden, and then vegged out in front of the TV until bedtime.
This morning I need to go to the bank and then call in at one of the garden centres to pick up the rest of the annuals I need. I can't decide whether to do a couple of hanging baskets as well - I wasn't going to bother because it's hard work to keep them watered when you're just using a watering can but now I have the hose pipe it will be much more manageable ... always assuming there isn't a hosepipe ban this year!
After lunch it's the Indian cookery class. I have no idea what's on the menu this week as they haven't published the recipe yet, so this week's Saturday night treat remains a bit of a mystery for now! Once that's over I have plenty of deadheading to do, so I have an afternoon in the garden to look forward to - deadheading followed by a reward of homemade lemonade, left over from yesterday, and time to read my book. M will be here tomorrow so I also need to work out what I'd like her to do.
I'll finish with a question ... does anyone know the difference between core Pilates and slow flow Pilates, please?
Sorry that I can't answer your question, I know absolutely nothing about Pilates. It was nice you had surprise visitors, a picnic and homemade lemonade too, that all sounds rather lovely. It'll be interesting to see what you return home with from the garden centre today, enjoy your visit :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I found out some info about the different Pilates on the internet but not sure that I really understand in practical terms
DeleteIt was a lovely surprise band they luckily picked the right day ... it's been raining since mid afternoon today!
I'll take photos once they are planted. I bought replacement sweet peas, some impatiens and petunias and two dwarf sunflower bushes.
What fun friends P&L are, I'd like to borrow them some time! I had a stop off at the greenhouse that does our curbside orders - I got the last of her cosmos! They are a little leggy but I think they'll come round once in some real growing space. From what little experience I have with Pilates, core is building your core centre of muscles (the abdomen) & slow flow was very deliberate movement, done with more thought on breathe & movement ... but this could have been all based on the studio/instructor I worked with. I also did some restorative yoga, which was also deliberate, slow, breathe focused movement.
ReplyDeleteI nearly bought some more cosmos today but I'd need some more pots so didn't bother this time. I do have willpower it seems!
DeleteThanks for the Pilates info. I've looked online and can't decide which, if either, would be the best to try so I'm still debating the subject.
The picnic and visit was perfect. I'd love to share them with you but .... 😂
Friends who call and show up with a picnic lunch - now that's a wonderful reason for not going out to take photos! Although the ones you have taken of the poppy and rose are just lovely! Sounds like you had fun at the garden center! :) Enjoy the rain - we had 2 minutes of drizzle over here, mid morning! Both my daughter and I were surprised! I hurried as best I could to take a picture, but, the 50 drops or so of rain we received dried up almost before they touched the ground!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely surprise and great to see them again.
DeleteI was very restrained at the garden centre for once! This year is the most expensive year for the garden though. All the permanent plants have been purchased and once they've finished flowering, there just needs to be a bit of moving round to improve how it looks.
It's been raining quite hard here. No thunder yet but I'm aware of the air pressure and I think the storm may arrive during the night. You'll have to get quicker if you only have s few drops of rain 😂
What lovely friends you have! Nothing better than being able to spend time outdoors with good friends.
ReplyDeleteHere we're having stormy weather this week. On Tuesday night there was a terrible thunderstorm, lightning hit on our roof, a deafening bang at 2am that caused a big hole on it and a power cut. What a fright!
They are the best, I'm very lucky to know them.
DeleteThat must have been so scary. I hope everyone is okay. How long will it take to get the roof repaired?
Not much, they started repairing it yesterday and are working hard.
ReplyDeleteLuckily everyone is fine, thanks:)
Everyone's fine ... that's the best news x
