Tuesday

Yesterday's haul ...

... one each of Fuchsia Natalie, a Fuchsia Pyramid, and Savlia Wishes & Kisses, and two each of Poppy Allegro and Gaura Lindheimeri Rose. The salvia and possibly one of the gauras are destined for the centre bed and the others will be grown in containers. All of these were on my list for next year so I'm happy to have found them in the sale and saved myself about 60% of the costs ... a bit of  TLC, and they'll be fine.

It was that horrible drizzly rain all day yesterday. I was soaked by the time I'd finished at the garden centre so abandoned my plan to visit the Priory at Edington on the way back and came straight home instead. I sorted out the music books and recorders for the girls and dropped those round once school had finished for the day ... two happy girls!  And that was about it for yesterday.

Today, I've sorted out a huge pile of assorted tutor books to take to the collection point for Oxfam. This is in Bradford on Avon so while I'm there I will try to take some more photos for my monthly photo challenge and also fit in my daily walk. I need to be home by 11:30 am at the latest for a delivery and then, assuming it stays dry, I'll enjoy some time in the garden to read, finish off the deadheading, and just relax. Tonight I'm taking part in an online quiz with friends and after will have a look at the box sets available on catch up and choose one to start watching. Any recommendations?

  1. Well done on your bargain plant finds. It was a fine day here yesterday so you must be having our share of the rain. Anyway it's nice and sunny here already today so I will send some of the sunshine your way :) I'm sorry can't recommend any box sets, I leave hubby to watch Netflix while I do my ancestry research as we have such different tastes in what's worth watching.

    1. I could have bought so much more but common sense kicked in for once! Thanks for the sunshine ... it's here now (Wednesday) so is much appreciated.

No worries about the box sets. In the end I settled on The Coroner, a Canadian series of only 8 episodes which, so far, I am enjoying.

    1. Thanks Joy. Next year is when it should really start to shine. The new planting adds some more climbers and perennials so, hopefully, will address the seasonal changes and fill in some of the gaps. xx

  3. A beautiful selection of flowers. Bonus at a savings of 60%. I am rather envious of your fuchsias. None of mine are thriving as yet & just started to bloom; with such a short season for them (we treat as annuals) I was hoping for more :(

    1. My sister went last Saturday and bought loads (they moved house just before Christmas so this is their first year of tacking their garden) but most of the plants she mentioned were gone by the time I went on Monday. I'll know to go on the first day next year. The best thing is that they are all established plants in 2 or 3 litre pots, not plug plants.

I was pleased to find the fuchsias. They'll both stay small enough for container growing but have good root systems already so should be well established by the end of the growing season. Then we can decide how to overwinter them. I hope yours bloom soon.

  4. Hi Eileen,
Your flowers are beautiful! Your garden will look spectacular!
I don't have any suggestions, because you are very disciplined and have your day very well organized.
I wish you a great day.
    Hugs

    1. Thanks Ailime. I'm very pleased with how the garden is looking at the moment.

I found a box set to binge watch - The Coroner, a Canadian series - which I'm enjoying so far.

I hope you have a great day too.

  5. Beautiful new plants for your garden!

It's a pity you couldn't visit the Priory because of the rain. The weather here has been rainy for more than a week...really boring

    1. Thanks Irune. The Priory is only about 15 minutes drive away so it's easy enough to get to another day.

I'm getting fed up with our weather but it looks like the end of June and most of July will be better for us. I hope it's the same for you.

  6. Beautiful plants for your garden and how lovely to find a good sale! M gave me a gaura plant (with white flowers) which did well until the rabbit ate it! :D I haven't checked on it, lately, to see if it has grown back; should try to check on it when I go out into the garden, next. Too bad you missed visiting the Priory due to the rain, but, at least the drizzle watered your plants for you. :)

Well done on the decluttering! I am way behind with my own planned decluttering!

    1. They have this sort of sale every year so I will look out for it next year and make sure to go on the first day. I love the gaura plants but most are too big for the space I have so I was happy to find these two smaller varieties.

I'll go to the Priory another day, it's only about 15 - 20 minutes drive away, so not too far. The rain as you say watered the garden. I've only used my new hose twice as it's rained every day since!

I wasn't intending the do any decluttering this week but I seem to be in the mood to do some more so am getting on with it. I've found a couple of places that buy secondhand photography equipment so will tackle that next - I have all our old pre digital cameras plus accessories and professional lighting kits to sell an although I know it won't make a lot of money, it all still has a value. Better it goes than living in cupboards here when I know I won't use any of it again.

    1. The prices were much better than I expected and the savings will go towards some new containers. I'll do some more photos once all the new plants are here.

  8. What lovely plants Eileen and a real bargain. This rain is a bit grim isn't it. I'm slightly worried we have had the best of our summer, hopefully not. I'm not very good at recommending box sets as I hate anything with any violence in so rarely watch much. We have just finished watching Wolf Hall on Britbox which was brilliant but that upset me because of the executions at the end. Pathetic!

    1. I checked the long term forecast and, at the moment, the end of June and all of July is looking promising with only 8 days of rain. Let's hope they've got that right!

I enjoyed Wolf Hall when it was on originally ... didn't get upset at the executions though 🤔. Did you watch The Tudors? That was one of the box set options but I chose The Coroner to start with as it's only 8 episodes and I do tend to lose interest in them if they for on for too long.
