Wednesday

Following on from a full day yesterday, today is going to be a bit quieter.

It's the online nutrition club this morning. I don't know what's up for discussion today as I was out in the garden when M was here and so missed the Friday session which is when the topic for today would have been announced. I'm sure it'll be interesting though.

That's the only thing in the diary. I think I'll need to do a bit of deadheading out in the garden and then will sit in the shade to read until the sun moves round and makes it too hot to stay outside. I really need to invest in a garden parasol! I'll sit outside again during the earlier part of the evening once some of the heat has gone out of the day ... I wilt very quickly when the temperatures are high! Yesterday at The Courts Garden it registered at 21⁰C which I wasn't really prepared for, although thankfully I had remembered to take a bottle of water with me even if I didn't have any sunscreen ... my arms are sore today where I've caught the sun.

I'm glad I went back to the garden centre to buy some more of the colourful pots as they had nearly sold out of them. I bought two gold ones and two smaller blue ones so probably have enough now. I did ask if they'd be getting any more in but their response was rather vague so I searched online and know they are available from other suppliers if I change my mind and want to get more, although surprisingly the garden centre's price turned out to be cheaper than any of the online sources so it seems they are not expensive on everything!

Late afternoon or early evening I'm hoping to go for a walk along the canal or around the park ... somewhere with a reasonably level pathway as my knee is painful today. I'm planning to get out of the house every day this week to take advantage of the sunshine.

Then home for watering duties followed by some time vegging out in front of the TV. It's The Great British Sewing Bee at 9 pm and once that's finished I'll watch the Great British Photography Challenge on catch-up as I missed it on Monday evening.

  1. It doesn't take long to get sunburnt and I know that to my cost. Take care if you like a soak in the bath as the hot water stings. A garden parasol is a good idea, I have one but not brought it out of storage yet. That's heartening to know your garden centre prices are reasonable, well on the pots anyway and I hope they get some more in for you. I'm looking forward to watching the Sewing Bee tonight as it's the semi-finals, shame Damian left last week but not unexpected.

    1. I think it was my morning shower that made my arms feel sore but it's calmed down now and is not too bad. I'm debating between a parasol and a sail but am not sure where the fixing can go for the sail without putting too many of the plants in the shade. I'll ask my neighbour next time I see him.

I'm quite surprised the garden centre's price for the pots turned out to be the cheapest as I've always thought their products were expensive. I'll consider them more often now.

I'm hoping Serena will win but I think that honour may go to Raph.

  2. I find sitting on the patio in the morning with my mug of tea is the best time to do dead heading of my potted annuals. It seems such a gentle way to start the day, it's the name of the activity that seems abrupt - dead heading! I hope that your knee does not give you any grief on your walk out. I also just learnt that sun lotion has expiry dates! Happy Day to you.

    1. It is a gentle start to the day. I also do half of the watering in the morning to split the task. I'm not sure that I will be able to go for a walk later on as my knee is getting more painful as the day progresses and I now can't walk without limping. I think I'll be better off resting it today.
I didn't know that sun lotion had expiry dates so I've learnt something new as well.

  3. Sorry to hear about your knee bothering you; it is probably best to rest it, today.

Well, of course I had to look up what 21C converts to! 69.8 F, according to the online calculator. That's still cold to me! I'd be wearing a coat or, at the very least, a sweater! :D

That's wonderful that the garden center has the best prices on those pots. Hopefully, they'll get another stock of them, should you need more.

Hope you are having a restful evening, Eileen.

    1. Would it shock you to hear that I don't have any sweaters? I wear a cardigan if I feel cold.

I was pleased to get the extra pots and should have enough for now but will get some more ready for next year if they do get more stock At least I now know that I can buy online if they don't get any more in.

  4. Hope the knee feels better soon! It's been really hot here - 31C today and it doesn't cool down that much at night. It's very sticky too. I have been managing a walk, but sweating when going outside yuck.

    1. I wore a knee brace today but it didn't really make much difference. I'd definitely struggle with those sort of temperatures. You do have both extremes where you live, don't you!
