Thursday 30th December

We definitely earned the title 'Ladies Who Lunch' yesterday. If you'd asked me before we met I'd have guessed that we'd run out of things to talk about after an hour or so as we've both been living solitary lives and not going out much, but I'd have been wrong. Four hours later we said our goodbyes and will be meeting again next week as we both still have things to chat about! My diary is filling up as I'll be visiting Joy next week and will also have the first meeting with H and friends to get the photography challenge off the ground. That'll be a Zoom meeting and, as well as tackling/discussing the first exercise(s), we'll be agreeing the location for our first face-to-face meeting.

I didn't do much else yesterday, so once home after seeing J, I spent the rest of my time either playing the piano, reading, and watching TV. I don't know if last night's 'Only Connect' was a repeat but I managed to answer seven questions and solve both walls ... my best effort to date!

I need to run a couple of loads of washing today but none of it will need to be ironed so that's easy enough. Apart from that it's the Indian Cookery online class - Aloo Palak today, which looks like something I'd enjoy but ... it clashes with Les Misérables: The Staged Concert which is showing on SkyArts at the same time. I haven't finally decided which I'll choose but Les Mis is winning at the moment.

  1. A four hour chat sounds wonderful, it's surprising what friends can chat about for so long and yet the time just whizzes by. It's a shame you're not able to record the Les Misérables programme and that way you wouldn't have to miss the cookery class. I want to catch up with the washing and ironing before the New Year too, I don't want to see it in with stuff that needs doing.

    1. Yesterday's chat really cheered me up. I wasn't feeling down at all, but I feel much brighter as a result. I no longer have the facility to record programmes and usually it isn't a problem as there is always iPlayer but Les Mis is on Sky so it's either watch it or miss it. I have a copy of the recipe so can always ask next week if there's anything I don't understand, so will be watching Les Mis while I have the chance.

My first load of washing is on the airer and the second, and final, load is in the machine. I feel really productive while doing very little!!

  2. Yesterday sounds absolutely wonderful and isn't it nice to have plenty of things to look forward to in the diary.
The Only Connect achievement is very impressive. I'm lucky if I can manage more than one!

(I've done an early PoN review on my SW blog)

    1. Yesterday was absolutely wonderful and a timely reminder of the need for social interactions. I'll be making a conscious effort to arrange some regular social activities from now on and make sure I always have something to look forward to.

Maybe Only Connect was easier because it was a Christmas special? I don't usually do that well! xx

    1. {blushes}, thanks Mary-Lou. I think it was a fluke and I'll revert to my normal standard next time. It was lovely catching up with J. xx

  5. It wasn't a repeat so you can take full credit. For my part, I was mesmerised by Victoria's costume!! But I'm still allowed to associate with you as I've just yelled out rather a lot of answers to Alumni University Challenge.

    1. Really? I'll mark it in my diary as I doubt I'll ever do that well again. Well done on the University Challenge. We only need two more people and we have a quiz team 😀

  6. Sounds like you really enjoyed meeting with your friend. Social contact is very important, isn't it? I hope you are able to get together with more friends in the coming weeks. :) Well done on the quiz, too. I think watching the musical will be more fun than watching the cooking show. I'm doing a couple of loads of laundry, myself - instant productivity! :D

    1. Yes, I really did enjoy meeting J. It's a timely reminder of just how important social contact is and how it contributes to a balanced lifestyle.

I abandoned all thoughts of the cookery class and watched Les Mis instead. It was brilliant!

I always feel I've had a productive day when I've done some laundry 😊
