Friday

I've started! Here's my first photo for the SPSH, Alt B: a local landmark - Westbury White Horse, which can be seen for miles. It wasn't the best day for photographing landscapes yesterday so I will try this one again to get the blue sky the photo needs!

On the way home I took some 'D' photos and then stopped to photograph the graffiti or, to give it a more accurate description, the street art. He's still  working on it, so it's another one to return to for the finished photo. It seems that this is part of a Nature Art trail around town where local artists will be creating window displays in some of the (many) empty shops from tomorrow, and 40 local businesses will have nature themed displays throughout the summer months. It should be worth a look, maybe something for a Sunday morning.

M will be here soon and will spend the morning working her magic on the garden. There's all the new plants to be dealt with, some weeding, lifting some of the spring bulbs, and probably quite a lot of chatting! I didn't make any progress on moving the gravel or topsoil yesterday so that still has to be done; she'll be using some of the topsoil today so it may be that what she removes actually lightens the bulk bag enough for the two of us to be able to move it together, which'll save having to bag it up.

The Nutrition Focus this afternoon is about how nutrition can aid and improve sleep, so I'm keen to learn about that. My sleep pattern is all over the place and I have too many nights when my sleep is so poor that my energy levels are non-existent the next day.

I did make a start on sorting through the music books last night. It's going to take ages, not because of the quantity but because I kept getting distracted and playing bits and pieces! All the beginners tutor books are already in the 'to go' pile and I will ask around before I take them over to the Oxfam collection point. One of the boys who lives in the Close is learning a brass instrument so he may be interested, and I'm thinking of passing my spare instruments on to Misses C and H so if they want them, they will also need the tutor books to get them started. At least this part of the decluttering is going to be fun if I'm playing through pieces to help me make my decision!

  1. What an amazing local landmark. That street art is quite colourful. The idea to use empty shop windows & engage the other merchants is a brilliant idea & to use nature as a theme. Well coming out of worldwide lockdowns does seem like we have been in some form of hibernation & are just awakening. Hopefully that awakening includes how nature returned while we slept, let's treat her much nicer this time.

    1. There are 8 chalk horses still visible in Wiltshire but this one is the closest to home. When we saw it through the train or car window, we knew we were almost home. https://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/explore/wiltshire-white-horses

I'd like to think that attitudes towards nature have changed but unfortunately I don't think that's the case with enough people to make a difference, judging by the comments the street artist who painted this one received on the local Facebook page.

  2. I do like the street art and it would be lovely to see the displays as and when they are finished. It's just what is needed to brighten up our town centres after lockdown and to help businesses recover.

    1. I'll take some photos if I do go to look at the art trail. There are lots of empty shops in town, quite a few from before we'd heard of the pandemic, so I dread to think how many have now closed due to the lockdowns.

  3. Yes the street art is lovely, as is the planned project. I really like your photo of the Westbury Horse, even (or especially) with the muted colour palette. I didn't miss a blue sky!

Hope the nutrition for better sleep was informative. Sounds really interesting, and quite possibly something I should look into. Good sleep is so important, and key to so many other things...

    1. I'm just pleased to see street art of that quality rather than the tags we normally see in this area!

The White Horse photo is growing on me but the horse should be on one of the sweet points for a better photo!

I missed the nutrition session but it will be repeated at some stage. I forgot the time and was out in the garden with M, so five hours spent working in the garden will ensure that I sleep well tonight anyway!

  4. Lovely photo of the White Horse and a great choice for the SPSH! The street art is lovely, too, and I like the nature theme.

I like your music decluttering methods! :)

Wow, you were out in the garden for a long time! I do hope you'll sleep well after all that exercise!

    1. Thanks Bless, the White Horse was the first place I thought of for this prompt.

I think the street art is amazing but quite a few locals are very negative about it, which surprises me. There's no doubt that the artist is talented in my opinion.

Music decluttering is fun, fun, fun, but there is a huge question mark over how long it's going to take if I play through everything!

I will definitely sleep well tonight, but I enjoyed my day out in the garden. There's a garden update post tomorrow ... I'm loving how it's all progressing.

  5. Lovely photos Eileen. I love the way you have captured the flowers in the foreground. I don't know why people are so down on street art. If it was left unpainted it would just attract graffiti, yet this is beautiful.

    1. Thanks Jane.

I love street art. There are amazing examples in Bristol which I want to go and see one day. The board this example is painted on was covered in graffiti so this is a massive improvement.
