Friday
the well underneath the dining room in the pub we went to yesterday |
I woke up early yesterday and it was pouring down so I texted M and said it was okay if she wanted to cancel and stay dry. She opted to cancel, which was fine by me, but as it turned out the sun was shining by the time she would have arrived although it was probably too wet to be planting in clay soil. I only had the crocosmia bulbs to be planted and they can easily wait until next time so it'll all work out in the end.
I spent most of the morning practicing the piano. I'm struggling playing both hands together so am patiently (not!) working through very slowly, doing a bar at a time. It hasn't clicked yet but it's not so bad that I think I'll never get it right, it just seems a big step from the level of music I was playing before. I'll feel better about it after a couple of days ... hopefully!
I met L for lunch at the Westbrook and we both enjoyed the meal. I had roast lamb with roasties, veg, and Yorkshire pudding, followed by jam roly poly and custard. L had exactly the same. We both agreed that it was delicious and will be going back again. I'm glad it worked out that I could leave home early enough to have lunch with L as she's not feeling too good and it meant that we had more time to talk.
Today there is nothing in the diary so it'll be a quiet day at home. I have a few bits and pieces to do, which won't take too long, and then can settle down for a pleasant day filled with crochet, piano, letter writing, and reading.
How amazing for there to be a well in the pub's dining room! Glad you enjoyed your lunch it sounds delicious. Enjoy your relaxing day at home today xx
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple of other pubs in this area that have indoor wells (glassed over for safety). They've all made a feature of the well with lights etc. The food was excellent and bigger portions than I am used to eating so I was stuffed! Hope you have a lovely day too xx
DeleteHa, I guess having a well under the dining room makes it convenient to draw up a glass of fresh water anytime it is needed! Your lunch sounds wonderful and I hope L is feeling better after having a nice chat with you. You are a good friend.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like there's a pipe from the depths of the well rising to near the top and then disappearing under the floor, so maybe they are still making use of the well water? The food was excellent and there was a good choice. I'll phone L later today to see how she is ... one of her friends has died within a few weeks of diagnosis, so she is obviously shocked and grieving. xx
DeleteThat must have been a big shock to L, to have a friend die so soon after diagnosis. Please convey my sympathies to her.
DeleteI will, thanks Bless xx
DeleteIf your weather is anything like ours, very wet and windy, today is a good day to stay inside.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's a good description of our weather! Thankfully I don't need to go out. Hope you can stay inside today too xx
DeleteInteresting photo of the well. Was there history about this well? For us, March came in like a very moody Lamb & is leaving like a sulk Lion but it seems March was all about snow! I would prefer to stay at home but alas follow up appts take priority. What a shock for L loosing a friend so quickly. Scary to say the least. I hope you enjoy your day at home.
ReplyDeleteNo, no history about the well and I didn't think to ask.
DeleteOver here March was definitely about rain but that's preferable to snow! Hope the follow up appointments are going well.
Yes, certainly a shock for L. The speed at which it all happened is scary to say the least.
Hooe you have a good day too xx
I'm sure the piano playing will come along in time. The lunch sounds lovely. That well looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy trouble is I want to run before I can walk, so need to slow down my practice speed so I stand a chance of getting it right!
DeleteThe lunch was excellent. We were sat right next to the well. It's right in the centre of the room so everyone has to walk over it. xx
