5/365: a bud on the pomegranate bush
sorry it's blurry but in my defence, it was very windy!

This week sees a return to the online classes, starting with the nutrition club this morning where the topic for discussion is "New Beginnings: Do you have any food/nutrition goals for 2022? Strategies for success". It'll be interesting to hear what the others are planning to do. I'm planning to carry on with the healthy eating plan from the pilot scheme I took part in but am also seriously considering trying a month of vegetarian/vegan recipes, though that idea hasn't developed much past the initial thought yet.

That's followed immediately by my weekly piano lesson. I've been playing regularly during the break but I have missed the discipline of practicing properly so will be glad to get back to it. I've also missed chatting with C so am looking forward to seeing her again. Playing through the set pieces yesterday, after neglecting to practice them once I had the Les Mis music book, went better than I was expecting so hopefully I'll be able to play in the lesson without too many mistakes.

The other two items of clothing I ordered are due today and if they arrive early enough, I'd like to go out for a walk. We're promised decent weather, cold but dry and sunny, the ideal conditions for taking some photos so, if I do go out, I'll drive over to Westbury and wander around the lakes near the railway station.

  1. It's interesting to think about trying vegetarian and vegan recipes for a month to see how you'd get on with it. As much as I love animals and hate to think about the whole process of farm to table, I know I couldn't have a meat-free diet. My daughter is vegan and it is a nightmare trying to cater for her on her visits as much as I love her. I hope your piano lesson goes well today and the weather stays fine for your photos. It is bitterly cold here so do wrap up warmly.

    1. I already do every other day as vegetarian so just thought I'd see how I felt if I ate that way full time. I can't see myself ever giving up bacon though!

The piano lesson went much better than I expected thanks. More practice needed but I was expecting that. I'm still waiting for the parcel to arrive so I haven't been out yet. I may go for a walk around the marina later but I'm out of luck as far as taking some photos as the light has gone. It's bitterly cold here as well so I'm quite content to stay in the warm. x

    2. Hi Eileen
      Just discovered your lovely blog
I am a Vegetarian who allows herself the occasional bacon sandwich- on think sliced

    3. Hello, and thanks for commenting. Trouble is, I don't think it would be that occasional for me 😂

I think I'll end up being a flexitarian with predominantly veggie meal and adding chicken, fish or bacon from time to time. Bacon would be every weekend! xx

  2. I will try to get back for the nutrition session but may not. Never mind.

Good luck with the piano lesson - enjoy it.

    1. It was mostly people chatting about any resolutions they'd set but she did show a video and chat for a while about setting yourself up to succeed. I can email the info if you are interested.

I did enjoy it, thanks xx

  3. That bud looks so delicate! Eating less meat is tough, it's a work in progress here, but it's worth it for us.

    1. I was surprised to see it in bud at this time of the year. I think a lot of the plants in my garden are very confused!

I think I will end up being a flexitarian rather than a true vegetarian as I do like chicken, fish and bacon occasionally. It's worth a try though, just to see if I feel better when I totally exclude meat and fish. x

  4. I am sure the fun of the lessons will out weigh any of the mistakes - are you still focusing on peddle work? I wonder what your nutrition group's 2022 goals are; at this time of year it is usually "loose the Christmas weight". I've been searching for some online nutrition classes/instruction & other than the businesses of weight loss, there doesn't seem to be much. The doctor's office does a brief nutrition info, but nothing ongoing. I would like something specific for my vegetarian needs. Last year I worked at introducing more legumes & beans into my diet (that was not successful although I did find a black bean "caviar" dip that is so good).

    1. Yes, we're still focusing on pedalling which I was congratulated on today! 😊

It was a session mainly taken up with people saying what their own resolutions are but C did give some tips on how to approach resolution setting and how to give yourself the best chance to succeed. I've signed up to Veganuary mainly to get the meal plans to help me get started, but they also send an informative email everyday for the month. Maybe that would be useful for you? x

  5. My nutrition goal is to try to eat better. I just don't. I tend to cook for husband and son but because I don't eat meat I end up either skipping eating and then eating junk or having something that's not good for me. I really need to think of food for myself or make them eat more veggie options!

    1. A good goal and I hope you can get it sorted. My friend is the only vegetarian in her house so she tends to cooks a veggie main dish and serve the meat as the side. Would that help you?

    2. I think that's probably what I shall do. I used to do that more.

  6. I'm surprised to see the pomegranate bud! My tree went into winter dormancy back in November!
Glad to read in the responses to comments that your piano lesson went well. :)

If you already follow a vegetarian diet every other day, then, going vegetarian for a month shouldn't be too difficult, I'd think. I followed a vegetarian diet, once, for about 3 months for religious intentions and found it difficult because, well, I'm not that fond of vegetables! LOL. Today's lunch was vegetarian, though, and I didn't miss not having any meat. My January goal as far as my diet is concerned is to go low carb. So far, I'm not doing too well with that goal!

Hope your new clothing items arrived; maybe you can take that photography walk, tomorrow. :)

    1. I was surprised to see the pomegranate bud. The few mild days we had have confused it I think.

It's the protein element of a vegetarian diet that I struggle with and also, too many of the recipes I like the look of contain avocado or cheese, neither of which I can eat. I think I'd miss having meat but I do want to try without for a month just to see whether I feel any better on a meat free diet. Good luck with the low carbs diet.

Yes the new clothes arrived late yesterday afternoon (it's Thursday as I write this reply) and everything fits me. It's Operation Replace Piano today so no walks for me ... and it's absolutely freezing, only 5°C today!
