Feeling More Positive!
12/365: decluttering |
I had a real wobble yesterday morning about the amount of stuff still to leave the house but I continued to sort out the stuff for the charity donation. My friend's son collected all of the donated items last night, 14 boxes and 9 bags, so I am left with the pile of stuff in the photo and another smaller pile currently in the living room ... that'll be in tomorrow's photo. Oh, and the old piano of course!
There are still quite a few music books, which my friend's son wasn't too keen on taking, so I will box those up and take them to one of the Oxfam charity shops to be sold on in one of their specialist music stores. The two boxes on the table will be returned to my late partner's family next time I see one of them, so it's just the rest that I need to deal with myself ... compared to how it looked before the donated items left the house, it doesn't feel quite so overwhelming and I'm feeling much more positive about it now.
I advertised the piano yesterday and made a start on photographing some of the things in the living room so I will carry on with that today, allowing a break for the nutrition club (which is a review of the key points covered during the 2021 sessions) and my weekly piano lesson.
The piano order is progressing. The store has instructed the specialist carriers so I am now waiting to hear from them to agree the delivery date. 😃😃
You can do it. There are days when the decluttering seems endless, but persevere. Ziffit is a useful place for decluttering books (I know, they are so hard to let go of...) I just helped a family member raise £100 that way
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel so will pace myself properly now and keep going. I've used Ziffit in the past but they aren't interested in the music books I have left. I've called them books but a more accurate description is full band arrangements of sheet music.
DeleteWell done on getting the charity donation items picked up and out of the house! 14 boxes and 9 bags is awesome! I hope the rest of it will be out of the house very soon and you can bask in the glow of being decluttered! Glad to hear the piano order is progressing well!
ReplyDeleteIt was a huge pile of donated item and I was completely overwhelmed by it. My friend's son was really pleased with it though and hopefully he'll make a good amount for the hospice. I'm estimating it'll take about three months maximum to deal with all the rest ... I can't keep going at the same rate so plan to take it at a slower pace and deal with two or three things at a time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the piano will be here before the end of the month.
DeleteIt can get you down when you're right in the middle of it, I know. It always looks awful when you start getting things out and they are all over the place. I think you are doing brilliantly though, I really do. Fingers crossed that someone will want (and can collect) the piano.

Thanks Joy. G, my hairdresser, may have found someone to take the piano but I'm still waiting to hear back about that. Now that the donated items have gone and with a possible taker for the piano, it all seems more manageable so I'm feeling brighter about it.
DeleteThat is massive progress. Hope you feel better today and that the piano session lifts your spirits.
ReplyDeleteThe piano lesson was great. Hardly any playing during the lessons though as I was updating C on the new piano and I think she is more excited about it than I am!
DeleteBravo, that is quite a decluttering feat. Well done you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susanne xx
DeleteKudos to you for pushing on with all of this. I know you have shared how emotionally charged some of the items were. The emotional attachment on my own decluttering is what breaks my flow each time, I have been watching uTubes to get motivation geared up for the first quarter of 2022 reducing of stuff.
ReplyDeleteThis last lot has been more emotional than I was expecting but making the decision to let certain items go was the hardest part so the advertising etc. should be a bit easier. That's what I'm hoping anyway. Good luck with your own efforts.
DeleteYou are making such good progress with the decluttering. I hope someone will want the old piano to make room for your new piano arriving soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen. My hairdresser may have found someone who is interested in having the piano, just waiting to hear back now they have the dimensions of the instrument. xx
DeleteWell done on the decluttering. You must feel really pleased with yourself but upset to part with sentimental stuff.I think I should have a rule that if I buy something new ,I get rid of something old but I do find it hard to do.

Thanks Barbara, I am pleased with what I've achieved so far. It's not easy to part with the thinks that belonged to my late partner but I know I don't really want them and it's much better for them to go to someone who will appreciate them. I think the one in/one out rule is quite hard to stick to as well.
DeleteYou are doing so well! I wish mine was going as well. I seem to be overwhelmed. I know I need to get rid of some things (a lot) and I want to get rid of things so that I can have a calming space, but I look at everything, start thinking about who gave me what and then I start to feel as though I can't get rid of the pieces! I am starting little and I know it will take me a while but I shall keep trying.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. It's easy to get overwhelmed by it. When I first started I photographed many of the items before letting them go because it seemed to hard and too final to donate them without doing that. I did it for a while and then stopped but it definitely helped me to keep on track at the time. Maybe something like that would help you? xx
