308/365: yesterday's hailstorm

For various reasons M hasn't been here for ages but she will be here later this morning and there is plenty for her to do this time. As I'm writing this I realise that I haven't bought the rest of the spring bulbs I want but I'll wait to see how much time she has before I rush out and buy them. I think this is supposed to be her last visit until the new year but maybe she'll prefer to fit in another visit to sort out the bulbs rather than do a long session today.

The garage door salesman was a no show yesterday. I'm wondering if he will contact me today to reschedule but the lack of any communication from him yesterday has left me feeling completely underwhelmed by that company's service and I don't know if I'd want to use them now. The other company will be here next week so I'll have a look online to arrange for some others to visit and quote ... I noticed yesterday that a lot of places are offering their Black Friday price reductions already, so I may be lucky.

Today's task is to do yet another inventory of the freezer. I'm really useless at keeping a running total of what's in there ... I've tried numerous systems but I fail miserably at keeping them up to date so if any of you more organised people have a foolproof system, please will you let me in on the secret?

  1. Hail! Hope it didn't do much harm to the garden! Hope you'll still have enough time to buy those additional spring bulbs and for M to get them planted.
Sorry the garage door salesman was a no show and no one bothered to let you know! I'm not sure if I'd want to use that company, myself - unless someone contacts you today to let you know why they were a no show. Hope the next company does better or you can get a few more estimates and one of those Black Friday deals!
I am not good at keeping up with the freezer inventory, myself. I forget to write down what I use up! I'd be interested to see what others have to say about their methods. :)

    1. The hailstorm battered the garden but didn't do any real damage thankfully. The two plants it completely flattened were annuals that were due to be removed anyway.

The company didn't contact me today so I won't be buying from them. I've looked out some other options and am waiting for them to contact me to arrange to quote.

Whatever system I think of with the freezer inventory relies on me remembering to update the numbers. I start off well and then forget so I know I will always be the weakest link in the process! Oh well!!

  2. What you need, in order to keep your freezer list contents up to date, is a GM or similar, it works for me anyway!

    1. But how long did it take you to train GM in the first place? Getting one seems a bit extreme if they don't come with an advanced level in inventory skills! 😂 xx

  3. Lack of a call to say I'm running behind or cannot make it today, tells me the kind of company they are. Yes better to move on to a company that would value your business. Organization in my chest freezer has been lacking since March 2020 (start of the pandemic mad shopping stock up) ... maybe that's a goal for 2023 to gain some order (col).

    1. That was my feeling as well. It's easy enough to phone if there were problems but he didn't, so I won't be dealing with them ... assuming I ever hear from them again.

Yes, it was the pandemic and difficulties with shopping and supplies that has messed up my organisation. I was never perfect at it but used to be much better than I am at present! x

  4. That is so dispiriting about the garage salesman. I can't wait to see how your bulbs turn out. You have such an eye.

    1. It is, but better to know before I placed an order with them.

I'm hoping to get some pink or purple tulips but it really depends what's available locally.

  5. Gosh yes we had a massive hail storm on Tuesday. It was bucketing down, making a din on the roof and windows then suddenly the timbre seemed to change. I couldn't believe it when I looked out and saw it was no longer water. I'd have hated to be out in it. Glad your garden didn't suffer. I can't really help with the freezer problem I'm afraid. Mine is stuffed with fruit, sometimes organised and sometimes less so. I usually remember what I have, just not always where it is! I only have two drawers which I use for everyday foodstuffs/meals and they are easy enough to keep an overview of. (V elegant sentence structure there!)

    1. Why is it always the big hailstones that hit the window? I escaped with no real damage and hope you did too.

I'm disappointed that you can't help with my freezer organisation issue. I was relying on you to come up with a good idea 😂😂

  6. Hope the hail didn't do much damage. Daughter had some damage to the roof from the last hail storm they had! Luckily insurance covered it and it was fixed. The photo is wonderful though!

    1. Some battered plants but they were due to be cut back anyway, so no problems. That was unfortunate for you daughter but good news it was all covered by insurance. Thanks re the photo.
