Friday

I saw P for a flying visit yesterday morning and it was a lovely start to the day. Sadly S was too poorly to meet for coffee in the afternoon so we will reschedule for one day next week. I went to the library instead and selected my 12 books; four from the crime shelves, five from the fiction shelves, and three non fiction. They should keep me busy for a while. I also sorted my online access so can now renew and reserve books online as well as download ebooks and magazines.

I'd forgotten that the library can also be a social place. It's located in the new part of the County Council building, which is open plan with comfy seating and a good café just inside the entrance. I saw a few people I know, including two of the children from the band, so instead of my usual whizz round to pick books and leave, I was there for over an hour mostly chatting and catching up. It's a drizzly wet day so I didn't bother with any shopping and will save that delight for another day ... I don't like clothes shopping!

The quiz was interesting! It was a team of eight, so quite difficult for everyone to be involved and the room was extremely noisy.  Two people on the team chatted all the time so it was a strain to hear the questions over them and the room was cold. However the quiz itself was one of the best I've been to, with plenty of different rounds - one was pumpkin carving! Oh, and did I mention that we won by half a point. The prize was a £30 voucher ( to spend in the hotel where the quiz is) but I don't know how they will share it out, and I'm not too worried about my share. I enjoyed it enough, and I have been assured that it's not usually so noisy, so I will go again. It's a fortnightly event so will keep trying up to Christmas before I make a decision on whether it is the right thing for me and that will give me time to get to know some of the regulars.

On to today and I am spending the day at home. I have a few admin things to do and then .... the weekend is starting today! I've made a start on the first book in the Simon Toyne trilogy, Sanctus, and I borrowed the other two from the library so I want to lose myself in them. To break things up a bit I'll watch a film on Netflix, probably either 'The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind' or 'Sully'. Add in plenty of coffee, hot chocolate, and good food and that's my plans for this weekend, which as I mentioned earlier, starts today!

  1. Sounds like you had a nice day, yesterday, even if you couldn't meet S for coffee. I like your plans for Friday, too. :) Ah, hot chocolate! I need to get myself a supply for the upcoming cooler weather! Have a great start to your weekend. :)

  2. That did recap like a very good day yesterday. Well done winning on your first outing to the quiz group. I think your weekend plans sound quite like Hygge practice. :)

  3. The library is a good place to run into old friends - that has happened to me several times where I got reacquainted with people I had worked with 20 years prior. And I spotted a Harlan Coben book I did not know about in that stack - off to check it out.

    1. The possibility of bumping into old friends in the library simply never occurred to me. With the cafe nearby it seems to be a good meeting place so I will be visiting more frequently from now on.
