Tuesday
There were quite a few new members at choir last night so there's over 100 of us altogether, based on the number of chairs filled most weeks. It's mostly women with about 10 - 15 men ... finding enough men is always a problem for these sort of choirs. Last night we worked on The Journey, which starts with The Gift to be Simple, has a middle section of Dvorak' New World Symphony, and end with a mix of the two. It sounds strange writing it out like this but there are some lovely harmonies and it's a beautiful arrangement. We also worked on The Never Ending Story, and Hit Me With Your Best Shot/One Way Or Another. All three songs have reached the stage where we sang through the entire song rather than working on sections.
My February clear out has started and I ticked a couple of things off my (very) long list yesterday. My neighbour was an absolute treasure and dealt with the skip run for me so I only had to deal with the books to the charity shop. I've now cleared a noticeable space in the dining room, which was the plan and which gives me the incentive to carry on. I also sent another pile of band stuff back so that's nearly at an end ... one more load to go, hopefully on Wednesday.

I don't know how much will get done today as this morning is set aside to meet C and sign off on the band's finances. Assuming it doesn't take longer than a couple of hours I will have the early part of the afternoon to do a couple of bits from my list, but I don't know what that'll be.
I have two lessons to do after school, and then this evening I am off to the cinema to see a live screening of the musical, Kinky Boots. I had tickets to see this in Bristol last year but the performance was cancelled and I couldn't go to any of the other dates so I didn't get to see it in the end. Seeing it on screen, while not quite the same as being in the theatre, is a good second best and I'm excited to be seeing it at long last.

ReplyDeleteI like the sound of 'The Journey'. Anything with great harmonies has my vote. Harmonies make or break the loveliest melody, I think.

I just have a small pile of prior year paperwork to label, then arrange collection which will be done tomorrow. The sign off has been rescheduled to next week as the person taking over had to deal with a genuine family crisis today and was needed elsewhere. I don't have any more work to do on that side of things so it's not an issue for me.

ReplyDeleteIt is a lot of people isn't it. Our Director runs three of these choirs each week, all big groups of people, so she's doing something right!
DeleteCheers to good neighbours, especially those that help. That is a sizeable choir, how lovely. 100 voices raised together, joyously. I do hope that band hand over is one that gets a full check mark as done for you this week. It seems to be like that virus you had, lingers on (col). I do hope you enjoy the movie.
ReplyDeleteThe band handover is a formality so I'm no longer doing the work, but it didn't happen this morning (see my response to Joy). Yes it's all been hanging on for too long and I'll be glad to draw a line under it all and be able to say 'that's it!'.
DeleteGlad you were able to get some things cleared out! Your choir sounds very large. My Mum joined one a few years ago when she retired, but it doesn't have too many people - all older women (as it is a women's choir). It brings her lots of joy though and she still goes when she has dropped most of her other activities.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying the choir and wish I'd joined earlier. It's made a big difference to my mood as well as providing the opportunity to make new friends. This group is all ages.
