332/365: raindrops on rose leaves

S came round on Saturday and fixed up all the hooks, holders and baskets in the understairs cupboard so for now it's all finished and can be ticked off the list as soon as a couple of items arrive next week. It will still have to be decorated but I'm waiting until the hallway is repainted and will get the cupboard done at the same time. Here's the photos I promised ...

In case you're wondering, the black and white thing hanging on the door in the first photo that has yellow ears and a green and white daisy is a bag for storing carrier bags. It's a cow and is called Ermintrude and is currently empty which is why she is looking so emaciated! I've ordered a table top ironing board and that will hang in the space between the vacuum and the small cupboard that contains the electric meter.

I still have to decide what to keep in the two storage baskets. I know there is stuff in the cupboard under the kitchen sink which will fit in here so that's probably my next job.

Also, I need to replace the wall mounted shoe storage as soon as the new sticky pads arrive - they'll go above the vacuum and above the little cupboard. The Instant Pot is too big for any of the kitchen cupboards so will live on this trolley. In the longer term I can make more use of the bottom two shelves by getting some storage boxes that fit but that can wait for now. The Christmas boxes fit behind the trolley; they are currently in the living room and I am aiming to sort through them this week. I'm not planning to get rid of anything yet but I do have an idea of what I will (probably) let go so I can rearrange the items into 'keep', 'maybe', and 'let go' boxes.

I have personal training this morning and once I get home I want to start rearranging some of the cupboards in the kitchen, dining room and cloakroom, partly because I have a lot more storage now so things can be moved to where they belong and partly because I want to work out how many storage jars I need for the kitchen. I'm not going to rush at it and tire myself out so this will likely take me most of the week.

I've ordered my replacement dinner service ... this one ... plus these pasta bowls. I was initially looking for one with a floral design but didn't see anything to fall in love with so am going for a plain white set again. It's only four place settings and I've always had six or eight settings before but I'm sure that four will be enough for the majority of the time ... if I've got that wrong I'll deal with it when the problem arises!

  1. Your cupboard is looking super tidy and organised, now you've just got to keep it that way! I shall have to look for a new dinner service soon as although I haven't broken any of mine various pieces have chips on.

    1. It's the keeping it tidy that'll be the challenge! My new pasta bowls arrived today and I'm pleased with the quality ... always a worry when you are buying online from a photo. Hope you find what you want when you start looking.

  2. Now I am singing that pesky song . . . Julie Andrews has a lot to answer for!!
That's a lovely big storage space, isn't it. And I do like your china. Simple and clean and will show off the food beautifully! xx

    1. Haha ... how about "how do you solve a problem like Maria" if your getting fed up with My Favourite Things!

Yes, it's a useful space and will be easier to use now everything has it's own place. My pasta bowls have arrived already ... love them! I've chosen my glass storage jars as well and think they may be the ones you bought for yourself, or something very similar ... square rather than circular with bamboo lid. Does that sound familiar?

    2. Grrrrrrrr. lol
Yes, that sounds like mine although I have a couple of round ones too. I like the squares, they make the best use of the space. xx

    1. Thanks Bless. I'm pleased with how the cupboard looks and it'll definitely be easier to find things in there. The new pasta bowls arrived today and hopefully the rest will be delivered tomorrow ... can't wait! It's been a busy sort of day but nothing too strenuous and I know I'll feel happier when I've finished reorganising the cupboards so it's worth the effort.

  4. I now have cupboard envy, I wish mine looked as organised as yours does. I like the new dinner set, we have a white one I got it from Denby using clubcard vouchers, don't know if they still do that. Isn't it great crossing jobs off the list. Helen S.

    1. I'm hoping that fitting the holders for all the cleaning equipment will mean that things stay in their place and it stays tidy in there but we'll see how it goes! My last two dinner services have both been white. I was going to buy floral this time but changed my mind and am happy with my choice. I wrote a list after I'd started just so I could cross things off! 😂

  5. Very neat & tidy & more importantly it is all visible & easily gotten to when needed. Organizing may be your super power! Very nice dinner set & should the need or the want arise for something floral, you can get a service of 4 to intermingle with the white.

    1. That's a good idea. I hadn't thought of doing that but it's a definite possibility if I do decide I need more place settings. Thank you.

I like things organised but then fail miserably at keeping it tidy> I'm a work in progress on that!

    1. Thanks Sharon. I'm doing a bit of sorting every day so it'll take a while to finish but this way it doesn't feel like a big task.
