321/365: penstemon, looking like they've been made to stand
in the corner and face the wall (or fence in this case) ... they're
not facing the direction of the sun for some reason!

My plans for a quiet afternoon just reading and relaxing were shattered by the doorbell announcing a surprise visit from H. I thought she'd come to see me but no, she wanted to see my Instant Pot (IP) and she came prepared with a bagful of ingredients to try a couple of recipes. Now she not at her best in the kitchen and it scares me to watch her chopping vegetables ... I always have visions of severed fingers! ... so I suggested I did all the prep to save time (and avoid serious injury!) and she breathed a sigh of relief and agreed. I let her do the actual cooking though. She made a chilli and a batch of hidden vegetable pasta sauce and then I cooked up a batch of the pasta sauce for myself ... I'd already tried these recipes so I knew the cooking times so there wasn't any scrabbling to look for information online! She's a convert and plans to buy her own IP. Although I inwardly groaned when she arrived (because I was so looking forward to a quiet afternoon), I had a great time ... she is always good fun and ready for a laugh.

So, I'm trying for a quiet afternoon today instead but before that I have a short list of chores to do. I definitely need to hoover the living room carpet ... even I can't deny that it needs a good clean ... and I may do the stair carpet as well. I'm selling this to myself as a chance to use my new vacuum and test it out, rather than it being anything resembling housework! I need to get a bag or two of top soil ready for M tomorrow so that's a quick trip to the garden centre, and I want to call in at the gym I have chosen to speak to the staff and have a look around. None of that will take up too much time, and then the rest of the day will be my own.

  1. I'm sure you've mentioned who H is, but, I am drawing a blank right now. I'm sorry your plans for a quiet, relaxing afternoon were shattered by her visit, but, it sounds like you both had a fun afternoon.
Hope your day goes according to plans, today! :)

    1. H is my friend who organised a year long photo challenge which didn't quite work out. She lives in Gloucester but visits her mum in Westbury (about 4 miles from me) and that's when I see her. She's always good fun!

I'm waiting in for a delivery before I go out to do two of the things on my list, and I'm considering doing the hoovering but haven't got past the considering stage yet! 😂😂

  2. What a pretty shade of purple the Penstemon is. You do well with surprise visits, I'm not sure I could be as gracious a host as you. I hope that you enjoy your day with a blend of testing the new vacuum, being at the garden centre (be on guard for temptation(col)).

    1. I'm not always that good with surprise visits but this one meant I got to play with my new toy again ... really loving the Instant Pot!

I was very good at the garden centre and only bought the soil. It was too cold to look around!

  4. What a beautiful plant. So interesting that it's facing that way!

Not sure I'd like that kind of surprise visit. I like my routines lol

    1. I love the colour of that plant. All the other flowers turned to face the sun but that one is having it's own mini protest or something!

I can cope okay with certain people dropping in unannounced and H is one of the ones I'm okay with so all was good. xx

  5. Your shy penstemon is so striking. Knowing how you love your IP, I am sure that surprise visit turned out quite pleasantly, even if it meant you were doing a bit more work.

  6. It's surprising how enthusiastic for housework I get with a new gadget. I'm glad that H had fun with the InstaPot. You should be getting commission!

    1. I was enthusiastic to start with ... love my new hoover ... but it's settled down to be housework now the novelty has worn off!

I love the Instant Pot, definitely recommend it for quick easy meals.
