Advent Day 14

The central heating has been sorted out and all the radiators bar one are now working efficiently.  The problem one is one of the two in the living room, which he will return to deal with after Christmas. It's the one radiator that is a different style to all the others in the house and has always bugged me because of that, so I am having it replaced with one that matches the rest. He will have to drain the system anyway when he returns, so this will be a good opportunity to get it changed. I won't be cold so am happy to wait a couple of weeks as he had a couple of emergency calls to deal with for people that don't have working heating, and that has to take priority.

The best news is that he was able to get the external tap working properly.  When he returns to sort out the final radiator he is going to fit an isolating switch so I can turn off the water during the colder month and reduce the risk of the pipes freezing. This involves fitting an inspection hatch in the living room wall, about 8 inches x 8 inches, but it's right in the corner so hopefully won't be too obtrusive.

Altogether,  including today's service and work, the total cost will be less than I had budgeted for which is good news as I've booked my first jollies for next year. For January I've set aside some money for a day's shopping including treating myself to a special meal while I'm out ... that's a solo adventure, and then in February I'm going with a friend to Hayling Island for three nights to one of the Warner Leisure hotels packages and we're following that straight away with a trip to Bristol for a meal and to see 'Wicked' at the Hippodrome.

I've had a couple more falls so have bought myself some crutches. I probably could have obtained a pair through the NHS but that would have meant waiting so I've bought a pair from Argos of all places. The falls are affecting my confidence so the crutch (I'll only be using one for now) will hopefully give me the support I need to prevent any more, that's the plan anyway. Before anyone asks, I  have already tried using a walking stick but that didn't stop me falling so purchasing the crutches is the next step in self help, until I get to see the consultant.

I have a swimming lesson this afternoon and after that I'm hoping to meet up with H for a coffee and chat.

  1. That's a relief your heating has been sorted out with only one left to fix.
Your February holiday sounds lovely and something to look forward to. I have a special anniversary coming up next year so I must take a leaf out of your book and get something sorted.
Sorry to read about your falls and had no idea Argos sell crutches but they sound just the job for you.
    Enjoy your day today xx

  2. Brilliant news all round about the heating/plumbing. Not so great about the falls but you're going about it wisely, I think.
    The jollies sound great. xx

  3. Good idea to buy the crutches, from Argos?! Who knew? It will give you support which may stop any falls. I hope that you get to see the Specialist soon. The trip to see Wicked sounds fab. I haven't seen it but would love to. Merry Christmas, Eileen.

  4. So glad that the heating and the water have been taken care of and the technician will return, after Christmas, to take care of that last radiator. Your January and February outings sound good! Sorry to hear about additional falls; I hope that the crutches will help. I suppose you've already tried a knee brace?
