176/365: there are five different fuchsias in this hanging basket

M was here for over three hours yesterday and in that time she lifted the unwanted plants, moved others, planted the bulbs and the new plants. She also did battle with the weeds, finished off the deadheading (I'd done most of it), and tied in all the climbers. It's all looking great! Best of all, I'd thought there was room for two more perennials but M thinks there's room for seven ... I've started ordering them already before she changes her mind!

I stayed outside with M while she was here and took the opportunity to move the blue pots of spring bulbs into the garage so the area by my bench is now much clearer. It was strange weather, some sunny patches but it kept clouding over although there were only a few drops of rain. I didn't drink enough and by the early afternoon was feeling headachy so didn't do much else, and eventually had an earlyish night.

It's Miss C's half year birthday (her real birthday is on Christmas Day but she has gifts and her party in June); I've already delivered her card and gift and will phone later to wish her a happy birthday. I don't think she'll have a party this year as she's getting older and I'm guessing she'll do something special with a couple of friends instead. Hopefully there'll still be cake!

I still have to record myself playing my three piano pieces so that's a definite for today, and S is supposed to be coming round this morning to measure up for the wooden planters/pagoda structure. Unfortunately the forecast is for rain most of the day so I don't know if that's still on or not but I'll fit in with whatever he wants to do.

  1. Your hanging basket full of fuchsias looks lovely and I'm sure your garden is looking magnificent. It certainly was cooler yesterday and much more comfortable. I like the idea of having a half year birthday in June. My Mum used to enjoy having a Boxing Day birthday with two lots of presents on two different days.

    1. There'll be a garden update post next week so you'll be able to how it's all looking. Yes, it was much more comfortable yesterday and looks like it'll be the same today.

They decided on the half year celebration so that she was able to have a party with her friends and not miss out on the birthday girl celebrations at school.

  2. Your hanging basket of fuchsia looks great! And room for seven additional perennials? How lovely is that?! Oh, what did you order, if I may ask? I like the idea of celebrating a half birthday, especially if it is in the summer! Hope there will be cake! :D Hope you have success recording your piano pieces and hope you have a lovely rest of the day!

    1. So far I have ordered alstromeria, phlox, and gypsophila. The climber we agreed on is a mauve and white potato vine and that's been ordered as well. I may get some lavender as well and we will replant one of the self seeded salvias to be the seventh plant.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the recording will be okay when I try later today.

  3. The half birthday idea is a great one. Bear has a birthday a few days away from Christmas, and I think he feels it sometimes. The fuchsias look beautiful.

    1. I think she got very overwhelmed by it all when she was very little so this was a good solution for her.

I think the fuchsias are looking good this year.

  4. Hello Eileen!!!
So glad I'm able to leave a comment again. I don't know what the problem was but suddenly goggle didn't let me write on your posts. I have been reading all of them, of course, but no comments allowed.

Your garden looks really beautiful, I love all the flowers on your plots. So colourful!

I hope you are lucky to find a group to improve your Italian and meet new people in Bath. It's a pity you are not learning Spanish instead of Italian because I could help you ;D

The idea of having a half year birthday party is great, I'll tell my husband because his is also on Christmas Day. Maybe you can still organise a party for him this June.

Enjoy your Saturday! (We are having a rainy day here)

    1. Welcome back! It seems that a lot of people are having problems commenting but don't know if it's to do with Blogger or Google.

Thanks re. the garden. I'm hopeful about finding a suitable Italian conversation group in Bath. That would have been fun, learning with you but sadly, I have chosen Italian and not Spanish!

Half year parties for December birthdays mean that you get to celebrate during the warmer weather and that can only be good.

Thanks, we're supposed to have rain here but so far there is no sign of it. I hope you have a good weekend too x

    2. In the past two days I've been chucked out of even more blogs, and can no longer comment using the last remaining browser that was allowing me to. So I've downloaded a new browser on my tablet, which works but I don't like the way it's configured. Getting really ratty about it now. Specially as one of the blogs I've been chucked out of is my own! Grumble grumble. Anyway I am looking forward to seeing your garden update and if I find myself unable to comment on it I'll send a carrier pigeon.

    3. That's a nuisance especially if you can't get into your own blog. I'm increasingly finding people's comments on my spam folder even though they are regular commentors. I don't know what's going on with Blogger.

I still have to take the photos for my garden update so it will be next week now.

  5. Your fuchsia basket is great. I do love gypsophila. Hubby has just put in 2 outdoor Buxus balls in the front garden and we have 2 outside the backdoor, he has also just planted gladioli bulbs in the front and back garden. I am trying to plant more perennials this year, hopefully less to do going forward. Helen S.

    1. Thanks Helen, all the fuchsias in the garden are doing well. All my gladioli went in yesterday as well. I'm trying to do the same as you by planting more perennials and reduce the number of annuals in the future. I just get tempted ever year, that's the problem!

    1. It's lovely isn't it? It's looking the best out of all the hanging baskets so far.

Well I've sent the recording off to C to see if she is happy with the quality of the recording. Hopefully it will be fine.

    1. I eventually got a decent recording and have sent it through to C for her to have the final say on whether the audio quality is good enough for the exam.

I love the fuchsias in the basket ... they look so pretty. There are loads of buds and I'm hoping they all flower at the same time .. it'll look amazing! xx

    1. After a lot of faffing about I got the recording done and am now keeping my fingers crossed that the quality, of the recording not my playing, is good enough.
