My Bucket List

179/365: tutti fruiti hanging basket

Here's my bucket list. It's not a 'before I die' sort of list but more a list of the things I'd like to do and the places I'd like to visit in the next year or two. I'd always thought that this would be the time when I did a lot of travelling but Covid has meant that overseas travel, at least for now, is on the back burner. I could easily have drawn up a much longer list but I'm try to avoid overloading myself as that only turns the completion of the list into a bit of a chore. I'm looking forward to doing/trying all of these things:

1. Do the treetop walk at The Newt

2. Visit the chained library at Wimborne Minster

3. Arrange a theatre trip to London

4. Book a coach tour holiday - destination to be decided

5. Book a day trip by coach - destination to be decided

6. Photograph a herd of deer

7. Explore Salisbury

8.Explore Bristol

9. Try out the monthly 'Ladies That Lunch' meal in Bradford-on-Avon

10. Complete three Treasure Trail walks

11. Visit three new-to-me National Trust properties

12. Arrange a trip to the coast

13. Complete a canal boat trip

14. Try line dancing *

15. Take up Tai Chi *

16. Explore local history and places of interest

17. Attempt some bird photography

18. Enjoy an afternoon tea with a friend

19. Read a book series - still to be decided

20. Play a piano duet with C

21. Meet up with my friend's daughters (and try to make this a quarterly or six monthly event so we keep in touch now they are no longer living at home!).

* these are dependent on my knee improving and being stable enough to stand up to the specific movement of these activities

    1. I've since thought of other things I should have added to the list, isn't that always the way! Hopefully I'll be ticking off the first one on Friday.

  3. It's good to have a list, mine are always loose, so I can change my mind, but having the list gives to a starting point. Have fun with those you do.

    1. Thanks Lyssa. There'll probably be changes before long and of course some of the activities are dependent on the Covid numbers staying low, which is the exact opposite of what's happening now we are in the fifth wave. I can do flexible though so will go with the flow and do whatever feels safe at the time.

  5. This is a wonderful list & all achievable which hopefully help you shake off that COVID lethargy you were/are feeling. I enjoy the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series written by Louise Penny. While you don't "have to" read it order, it helps with getting to know the characters as each book introduces more about the main characters. Currently there are 17 books in the series with the 18th book due out in November. The first 17 are all available in paperback. There's lots of French/English Canada history in the books, gently placed so not boring & dry. As a Canadian it helps to understand just a little bit more about the Quebec to the rest of Canada issues. The first book in the series is called Still Life.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. I've checked the library catalogue but they don't have them all in my local branch and there is a fee to request them from others branches so that's money I don't want to spend. I might try The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley.

  6. Some fun looking things on your list. I have looked at The Treasure Trail walks but haven't done any yet. We visited Bristol for a weekend just before Covid, so much to do there, hubby and son would like to go back again. Salisbury we visited about 8 years ago. We have said we will go on a Canal boat holiday for about 20 years, but have not done so yet. A few series I have read and enjoyed are Jonathan Kellerman the Alex Delaware series, Faye Kellerman, Rina Lazarus series. Sue Grafton the Alphabet Series. Patricia Cornwell, Scarpetta series. Peter Robinson, DCI Banks Series. I also like The Miss Read Fairacre and Thrush Green Series. Hope this helps. Helen S.

    1. I think the Treasure Trails provide an easy way of seeing all the important/historical places of interest when I visit a new town. They are also fun to do with the kids.

Bristol is only 30 miles from me but, apart from shopping or to go to the theatre, I don't know that much about the place so am looking forwards to exploring it, and that's the same for Salisbury as well which is 30 miles in the other direction.

I saw an advert for a trip on the Manchester Ship Canal and I'm kicking myself for not going on it, so am keeping my eye out for something similar.

I think we must have the same tastes in books. I've ready all of the ones you've mentioned but many thanks for trying. x

  7. What a fun list of activities to plan and look forward to! I had to look up the treetop walk as I wasn't familiar with that; there was a video and I watched that. :D Since you asked for suggestions for a book series, I enjoyed reading Philippa Gregory's The Plantagenet and Tudor series of novels.

    1. Thanks Bless. I'm really looking forward to the treetop walk and I've since found out that you can sometimes see the deer her from there so I may get two for the price of one!

I like you book suggestions and think I will try The Plantagenet books as my series, at least for starters.
