154/365: pink geranium mingling with the fleabane

I spent yesterday morning curled up on the sofa watching the BBC's coverage of the first event in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration, Trooping the Colour. I always get emotional when I watch this ceremony and this year was no exception. We travelled to London to watch it one year, only in The Mall as we weren't lucky enough to get tickets for the seating on Horse Guards Parade, but it was such a special occasion and a happy memory of a truly wonderful day.

The rest of yesterday was spent chatting with friends and rearranging the plans for today. H and K definitely have Covid so the original plans for today will wait until they are well again and I'll now be spending some time with L to share a meal and watch a film here this afternoon, and later this evening we'll go back to L's home for a BBQ. The weather forecast isn't too promising so if it is too wet, and especially if the promised thunderstorm does show itself, we'll settle for a takeaway instead.

Do you have plans to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee? I hope you all have a lovely time whatever you are doing.

  1. How lovely that you have been to London to watch Trooping the Colour and a wonderful memory for you. I watched on TV yesterday and was appalled to see the two protestors and glad the police were quick off the mark to remove them. I hope H and K recover quickly from Covid and what a shame you have to rearrange your plans but i hope you have a good day. I learned about an event to be held on Sunday so I hope I am can go along to that.

    1. We went up for the 50th anniversary of VE Day as well ... that was another awesome experience.

I despair at the protestors and was relieved that they didn't ruin the celebrations.

Hopefully H and K will both recover quickly and we can meet up. L will be here soon and we always have a good time together so the rest of the day will be fun. I hope you have a good time on Sunday xx

  2. There are no celebrations of the Jubilee, here, but, I watched parts of the celebrations on TV news and the BBC website.
Sorry to hear your friends have Covid; hope they recover fully. Enjoy your time with your friend L.

  3. I found yesterday's Trooping of The Colour extra special; so many gorgeous horses. Her Majesty looked stunning in her Wedgewood blue outfit & I just loved how the crowd at the balcony sang God Save The Queen to her. I found it quite touching that Lady Louise wore her Mum's hat from the 2009 T.T.C. Locally there is an abundance of tea parties happening all weekend. Hope you have a wonderful day of good weather & friends.

    1. It was the perfect day for Trooping the Colour wasn't it? I loved everything about the event. It was quite touching that Lady Louise wore her Mum's hat from 2009 which was also the year that Louise took her place with the family on the balcony.

The weather is playing nicely so all is well. L is on her way and the celebrations will start as soon as she gets here. xx

  4. Hi Eileen,
Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee ceremonies are spectacular. I didn't see everything, but I watched a good part and I really enjoyed seeing all those millions of people celebrating the 70th anniversary of the reign.
I hope you have a good afternoon to be with your friends.
    I liked the beautiful flowers!
I take this opportunity to wish you a nice weekend.

  5. Trooping the Colour never gets old - I love it! I saw the rehearsal one year as a child, with Dad. I don't know whether he intended it but for some reason he had taken me to London that day, and we saw the parade going down the Mall. I only remember the noise, and seeing the brass flashing by. He said on Friday that there had been an incident with a police horse taking fright and bolting. Apparently it had hared off into the crowd and taken some time to bring under control. Frightening, apparently (even if I was oblivious or have forgotten!) Another year I was lucky enough to get a ticket in Horseguards Parade to watch the rehearsal of the ceremony. It was very impressive.

    1. I can remember watching Trooping the Colour on TV when I was very young and being completely stressed out the the soldiers wouldn't all be able to turn the corners in time and would get left behind!

Were you near the police horse incident?

I'm slightly (well, green with envy really) that you got a ticket to see the rehearsal. Was that as an adult?

    2. Yes we were near the police horse incident. Dad was talking about it on Friday, surprised I didn't recall.

I suppose it must have been about 15 years ago that I sat in horseguards for the rehearsal. A friend of mine was working at the Australian High Commission and got two tickets. He gave on to his wife and I got the other! I should look out my photos. They were taken on film and I don't suppose they are very good. I'd love to go again and have another try!

    3. You'd think an incident like that would stand out in your memory.

I applied for tickets every year when I worked in the Civil Service but was never lucky enough to get chosen. I'd like to watch from the Mall again one day, the atmosphere is amazing.

    4. I was quite little and we were about 4 or 5 rows back alongside the Mall. I had to peer through gaps so if I didn't see the horse properly I don't suppose it would have made a lasting impression.

I'm intrigued re question mark over Prince Charles' health. Must admit I hadn't given it any thought.

    5. Ah, that makes sense.

There's been quite a bit of online chat and comments etc. with people suggesting that Prince Charles is not in the best of health. I've thought a few times over the last year that he has looked unwell but it may be down to his run in with Covid.
