Yesterday's U3A monthly meeting was great and it'll be something to look forward to in the future. There were about 50 people there so it was an ideal opportunity to meet some of the other members and people were very friendly, introducing themselves and including me in conversations. There was a speaker for the first hour of the meeting telling us all about the Great American Songbook, although it was actually a mix of a talk and a concert and he played and sang his way through the well known songs of the great American songwriters, linking it all together with humorous anecdotes and quirky facts. I really enjoyed it and am glad I went. The speaker for the November meeting is talking about the Wiltshire White Horses, which I think will be equally as good.

It's a quieter day today, with just a nutrition class this morning and a trip to the cinema to see Mrs Harris Goes To Paris with L, and maybe J, this evening.

I hadn't heard back from the eye hospital about changing my appointment date so I contacted them yesterday to learn that, as it is a first appointment date with them, it can't be changed. My only option is to cancel it and ask to be referred again which I didn't want to do so I left it as it is and now have to book hotel and transport to cover the additional days in London. That's one of today's tasks.

The other task is to do with finances. I need to write to the tax office again (new problems this time!) and I definitely want to sort out a new cash ISA for this year's allowance. I also need to check that I'm getting the best interest rates on my savings so may contact a financial advisor for help this time as I find it difficult to know what to do for the best. However, before I do that I want to have some idea of what's available and have a look at Martin Lewis' website to see what he is advising. As long as I can set up the ISA and get the letter to the tax office in the post I will be happy.

    1. It was a full day. I find the socialising more tiring than I used to, probably because I've got used to spending so much time on my own during the lockdowns and everything. It'll settle down and I'll get back to a workable routine in time. xx

  2. Glad you enjoyed the meeting, yesterday, Eileen. Sounds like you have something fun to look forward to, today, as well. :) Too bad you can't reschedule the eye appointment, but, hope the scheduling of additional hotel days, etc., will work out well. Hope the financial stuff will work out well, too. :)

    1. I'm a bit disappointed that I can't change the eye appointment but at least I am being seen without a long delay so I am grateful for that. I've come up with to many ideas of what I can do on the extra days in London so now need to whittle it down and then start booking tickets.

Thanks re the financial stuff. I'm making hard work of it really, so for now will just concentrate on getting the tax office letter sent off, and then tackle the rest when I'm not so tired. xx

  3. I'm glad you're enjoying the U3A and it sounds just what you were looking for. That's a shame you can't change the date for the eye hospital appointment but an extra day or two in London sounds good. Sorry to hear you have more tax office problems, it took them six months to sort my problem but got there in the end. Hope you can sort out your finances today.

    1. Thanks Eileen. At the moment it seems that it will work for me. The people I've met are very friendly so I can't see why it wouldn't work out.

Now I know that I can't change the appointment date I'm happy to have a couple of extra days to enjoy myself in London.

I'm fed up of the tax office. Fingers crossed they correct my account properly this time ... I hope it doesn't take six months for mine! xx

  4. Taxes, just thinking of dealing with that department, gives me the shivers of annoyance. Good Luck. I think that The Universe is working to your good with the eye appointment ... London awaits is the travel commercials theme this side of the pond (col).

    1. I've posted the letter so it's in the hands of the tax office now. I can only sit back and wait!

Now I know it's not possible to change my eye appointment I am making the best of my extra couple of days in London 😊 xx
