 In the garden ...

... nemesia, pomegranate flower, and osteospurmum.

I disposed of a pile of music books and a box of bits and bobs to the charity shops yesterday so that's cleared a bit more space at home. I didn't bother with any photos ... not particularly good light and to be honest, I just wanted to get home. On the plus side, I did empty and clean the fridge and swept the patio. That exhausted my energy supplies so the rest of the garden tasks were left for M to see to.

M will be here this morning to work her magic in the garden. It's mostly a general tidy up but one of the roses needs some attention so she'll probably be here for a couple of hours. While the garden is being pampered I'll carry on with the decluttering, hoping to deal with the contents of a couple of boxes. I know one contains Mecanno books, which I'll photograph and advertise, but I'm not sure off the top of my head what's in the other one. There's only four more boxes to deal with after this and then it's a case of sitting back and waiting for the sales. Anything that doesn't sell will be sent to the local auction .... and then the decluttering will be finished ... I will be celebrating!

I still haven't been able to get an appointment to see my doctor so will have to waste spend another hour or so on the phone and try again today. The surgery texted yesterday to advise that they are starting the flu vaccination programme and that I will receive a link to book that, so that's imminent. We were originally told that it would be a flu & Covid booster but there seems to be a question mark over the booster part so for now will just be the annual flu jab.

I think I have decided on a new Internet provider ... has anyone ever used Talk Talk before? If you have I'd be interested to hear what you think of them please.

My August decluttering challenge:

  • 1st = a set of plastic measuring spoons (I never use them)
  • 2nd = a white shirt (band uniform that is now too big)
  • 3rd = odd balls of wool (going to my sister, who can make use of them)
  • 4th = a map quiz book (completed and unlikely to want to do it again)
  • 5th = blue cardigan (big holes in both elbows so only fit for the bin!)
  • 6th = a pile of half completed puzzle books (going to my friend's sister)
  • 7th = large fruit bowl (I don't like it but K does, so it's going to her!)
  • 8th = a broken Filofax cover (only fit for the bin!)
  • 9th = unopened toiletries (unwanted gifts, so going to a friend)
  • 10th = 3 small terracotta indoor pots (gifting them to K)
  • 11th = old duvet set (to be donated)
  • 12th = 5 Pyrex divided containers (to be donated as I never use them)
  • 13th = two impossibly hard jigsaw puzzles (to be donated gifted to Joy)
  • 14th = books, garden fleeces & growing bags (gifted to Joy)
  • 15th = a box of carbon paper (gifting to E)
  • 16th = tin full of pencils and crayons (donated to a woman's refuge)
  • 17th = DVDs I never watch (gifting to E)
  • 18th = broken metal whisk (to be recycled)
  • 19th = brand new under sink waste bin (to be donated)
  • 20th = 2 pairs of specs (to the collection bin at the recycling yard)

  2. Your flowers are lovely and I'm glad the strong winds didn't cause much damage in your garden. You're doing so well with the decluttering, it definitely will be a cause for celebration when it's all sold and gone. Time for flu jabs again, time goes so fast these days.

    1. There was very little damage once all the debris was cleared up, thankfully.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with the decluttering and am aiming to get it all finished by my birthday in November.

The days are dragging but the year is flying past. I've booked my flue jab!

  3. Your pomegranate flower is opening up! How exciting! Wow, you are almost at the end of your decluttering! I'm envious! :D I've a long way to go before I can say I'm nearing the end! But, I'll get there, eventually! You are inspiring me! Hope you are able to get that doctor's appointment soon! Have a lovely day, today.

    1. There were five flower that were more advanced but they didn't survive the wind. It's probably just as well as this is it's first year so by next year the plant will be bigger and stronger. I doubt that there will be any fruit this year but I live in hope and pray for sunshine!

No luck with the appointment but my flue jab is all arranged.

  4. I have had TalkTalk for a couple of years and only finished with them because I have moved home and can get a cable provider in the new place. They were fine.

  5. Hey Eileen, I received the same text from my GP re flu jabs. I had earlier managed to book a free flu jab for myself and partner at Lloyds Pharmacy for 23/9. They offer jabs for 50 plus whereas the GP were only offering for 65 plus. Register with them online if you choose. I did it because my own surgery gets booked up quickly and then they run out of vaccines. Last winter I waited until November and my partner didn't meet the GP criteria at all.

    1. Thanks for the info but I have arranged an appointment for the flu jab through my surgery. I'm in the 65+ age group so am booked in for the first week of their vaccination programme when hopefully there's no danger of them running out of vaccine!

  6. Interesting flowers & great close up work! How wonderful to be so close to the end of the de-clutter. I'm trying to find donation locations that will take the mugs; in the re-opening of charity shops they so far seem to be only taking clothes. Our COVID-19 booster shot program has started with those that have immune compromised systems, receiving cancer treatments, or organ donor precipitants. The under 12's that will be 12 by the end of the year can now have COVID vaccines. Flu programs usually start in October & the experts are expecting record turn outs this year.

    1. Thanks Mary-Lou. I can't wait to be finished with the decluttering and enjoy a more minimalist style of living. I haven't had any problems getting the charity shops to take everything that I had ready to go but I know that when lockdown first ended they were overwhelmed with all the donations that turned up on their doorsteps.

The Covid booster is, I believe, still awaiting approval in the UK and I'm not sure where we are with the vaccination of children. My surgery is starting the flu vaccinations in September which I think is slightly earlier than usual.

  7. Lovely flowers!! You are doing a great job with the decluttering. I have to catch up with it after spending some days on the beach. I feel full of energy now so I hope I will have completed your decluttering challenge by the end of August... ;)

    1. Oh, you've been to the beach. I hope you had a fantastic time.

I'm in the right frame of mind with the decluttering and am currently making good progress. Let's hope I can keep up the enthusiasm between now and November to get it done. November is the target date for completion.

  9. Funnily enough I am currently in a dispute with TalkTalk. They have only just got me back up and running, after 7 weeks with no phone, and intermittent internet (several days with none at all). This is my second consecutive contract with them; the first year was OK, even if the internet connection was unreliable compared with my previous provider's (Sky). However once things went wrong I felt completely powerless. There is no option to email to report a fault, so if your phone isn't working, you have to do live chat - which was awful, time-consuming, fruitless and leaves you with no record of what has been said/agreed. I reported the fault five times to no avail, and have had no response to the resulting complaint which I raised over a month ago. (Also no rebate on my bills.) Honestly, I would not recommend them, but have a look online before you make your decision. I have found a couple of sites where customers have reported far worse cases than mine - some quite scary. Whether anyone else is much better is another matter - I know Plusnet has an appalling reputation for customer service as well.

Sorry for the negativity but I hope the info is useful. :)
