62/365: nearly time for the daffodils!
Yesterday's piano lesson went surprisingly well and I have a couple of new pieces to try out. They are potential grade one pieces, both fairly short and easier than one of the pieces I'm currently working on. Changing to an easier piece would mean that I can take the exam earlier but I don't really see it as a race and think I'd prefer to continue with the harder piece ... I'll see how it goes this week before I make a decision.

An afternoon in the company of KCH would brighten anyone's day. I really enjoyed her company and catching up with what she's up to ... a change of job which she's excited about, and a new man in her life. She seems much happier and more settled than last time I saw her, which is so good to see.

The only thing in the diary is the Indian cookery class and today we're making Indian chutneys - a green one, a tamarind one, and a garlic tomato one, which will be useful as I'm planning my first culinary adventure for later this month (assuming my blood results are somewhere near target so I won't need to return to an exclusion diet) and will be starting with Indian and Sri Lankan dishes.

I have to make the effort to tackle some more of the decluttered items today. KCH brought me some music books that she no longer wants so I have those to deal with as well as well as my own stuff. I'll keep some of the piano music and give the rest to Miss C, but there's also a lot of brass music to sort out. Some can go to my great nephew who's learning the trumpet, but I'll have to decide what to do with the rest. She did ask before she brought it over! Apart from that I want to concentrate on dealing with the rest of the items currently stacked in the corner of the dining room. Now that I have a social life of sorts it'll be good to have the dining room returned to its proper purpose so I can have friends round for a meal if I want to. All of that gives me a goal of sorts to aim for.

  1. The afternoon with your young friend sounds lovely and your social life returning is good and about time after the last couple of years we've all been through. More to sort through but you'll get there.

    1. It was so lovely to see her and she stayed for about four hours so we had plenty of time for a really good catch up.
Life seems to be opening up again in many ways and it feels so good.

I'm making a bit of progress this morning with the decluttering, mainly with the music books but every little bit helps!

    1. It was an interesting session on chutney making, which in Indian cuisine means a consistency more like a dipping sauce rather than the jam like chutneys we're used to. I will make them but need additional spices before I get try them out.

Let's not mention the decluttering ... I've failed miserably! 😂

  3. It's lovely to read how things are returning to the familiar for you, with visit out & friends in. :)

    1. Thanks Mary-Lou. I still feel anxious about the socialising but thinks it's well balanced by the emotional benefits from spending time with others, so I'll keep going. 🙂

  4. Loved seeing the pot of daffodils about to bloom! Your garden will be full of color, very soon.

Sounds like the piano lessons are coming along nicely and you've had a great visit with your friend. Indian chutneys are different from Sri Lankan chutneys, but, I like their tamarind chutney. It's my favorite when I am having samosas! Good luck with the decluttering! Having a goal of clearing out the dining room so you can have guests over to a meal is a good incentive! :)

    1. Another week or two and there should be some colour again.

I'm really pleased with how the piano lessons are going. I'm making steady progress and have moved on to learning more interesting pieces.

The tamarind chutney is the one I want to try first. Is seeni sambol classed as a chutney?

It's a good goal and I just need to get on with it ... too much procrastinating and not enough progress!

    2. No, seeni sambol isn't considered a chutney. It is a sambol, which might be considered a relish of sorts. Chutney has vinegar in addition to spices and sugar.

  5. What a busy day! Glad your lessons are going well. It sounds as though you are really enjoying your new instrument. I love seeing the daffodils grow. I can't wait until something grows here!
