82/365: the first of the summer snowflakes to flower

The good news is that there is no damage to the retina ... breathes a sigh of relief ... and just have to continue to take care for the next six to eight weeks. That's increased from what I was told originally but I'll follow the advice to the best of my ability.

I didn't really do much for most of the day, blurry vision not being that ideal for most activities. It was a lovely day but apart from a bit of time in the garden later in the afternoon I stayed indoors ... bright sunshine is painful until the pupils return to their normal size, which seemed to take forever yesterday.

It's the nutrition club this morning, talking about bone health so I may give it a miss as we covered that subject fairly recently, and that's followed by my piano lesson. I did manage to practice the piano scales from memory but didn't do any of the other pieces so I feel slightly unprepared for today's lesson ... it'll be interesting to see how I do! Last week I knew I couldn't play certain bits properly but practice has gone well for most of this week, so I may get away with it!

After that I have a couple of parcels to send off - one more item sold, and one online purchase to return as it's not quite what I was expecting. While I'm out I'll take the opportunity to fill up with petrol and check the tyre pressures and then take the car to be washed and valeted, assuming the place I usually go to is still open. I might stop off at the garden centre café on the way home and treat myself to a scone 😊

  1. I love the sound of your day, especially the garden centre and scone. How satisfying.

I'm thrilled that the retina news is so good. Definitely a great relief. Good for you! I didn't know you could get summer snowdrops - that one obviously has its seasons confused!

    1. Thanks Joy. I can recommend the garden centre and the scones.

It's brilliant news about my eye and, provided I'm sensible, it should eventually cease to be a problem.

They're summer snowflakes, so much bigger than snowdrops, and they flower in spring but are long lasting.

  2. Such good news about your eye but do as they advise and take things easy. The weather is set to be good for the rest of the week so a good time to sit outdoors and enjoy your garden. Watch your blood pressure when you fill up with petrol, prices are high now and the cost could come as quite a shock. Stopping off at the garden centre cafe sounds a good plan.

    1. I will be sensible, don't worry. It's great news and I want it to stay that way.

The petrol price was a bit of a shocker. I've filled the tank as I think it will continue to rise in price.

I've added the garden centre café to the list in my head of 'good things to do'!

  3. There is a nice blend of activities for you today. So glad to hear that your retina isn't damaged. What a relief for you. Oh a scone sounds rather a nice treat. We are starting the day with freezing rain & wind warnings, so I'll need to get "work" done first while power is on, then with longer daylight, I could, should the power go out, have time & light for some playing with paper time :)

    1. It's been a good day and I've enjoyed myself. The eye results are a relief, which I sure you understand from your own experiences with Mr Man.

I can recommend the scone and now feel tempted to make some at home ... I'm trying to be good so am resisting the temptation so far.

Hope your power isn't out for too long if it does go off.

  4. So glad the eye appointment held good news - I can imagine what a huge relief that was. My day is full of errands too, once I get a bit more caught up on blogs. I wonder if you and I are both in for a shock when we fill up our car tanks.

    1. It was definitely a huge relief and the news I wanted.

I had a shock when I filled the petrol tank, so hope yours wasn't as bad!

  5. So glad your retina is fine. I'm sure knowing that will make you recover even faster.
Enjoy your activities today and the good weather! :)

    1. Thanks Irune. It's a relief that I don't need an operation and if I'm sensible and take it easy, the eye will eventually improve.

I've had a lovely day today. I think I'm getting used to taking it easy!

  6. Hope the scone hit the spot! My car was serviced the other day - bright and sparkling for all of 24 hours and now it is bedecked my small share of the Sahara desert! Gah! Yes, keep on taking care of that eye. Eyesight is so precious as I know from Mum ... today I took Dad to have his looked at and now he needs a cataract op, but reports are that those who have them never look back (there's a pun in there somewhere!).

    1. Oh yes, definitely hit the spot!

Avoiding any further eye damage is certainly my priority. As it stands at the moment my brain will eventually learn to ignore the flashing lights but if I don't take care to avoid any retina damage it could lead to sight loss and I definitely don't want that.

I hope your Dad gets his op soon and that it goes well. xx

  7. Because I didn't read blogs for several weeks, I had to read your past posts to see what had happened to your eye.

I'm glad you don't need an operation. Hope you feel better soon.

    Those flowers are gorgeous.

    1. Thanks Nil. I just have to be extra careful for 6 t 8 weeks and then it'll just be a case of waiting for my brain to learn to ignore the flashing lights and floaters, which takes between 6 months and a year.

Glad you like the flowers x

  8. Sending hugs. I've started filling up when I get to half a tank these days, as I don't want to get caught on the hop if there is another shortage.

    1. Thanks Lyssa. Thankfully I don't need to use my car regularly now, so fuel shortages are not so much of a worry as they would have been when I was working.

  9. Such good news about the retina. Please do take it easy and rest for as long as recommended (or, even a bit longer!)

The scone sounds delicious and now I am wanting some, myself! Petrol/gas prices here are quite high, too, but, I'm grateful it is still available (and I don't have to drive to work and back every day!)

    1. Thanks Bless and don't worry, I intend to take it easy and not put my sight at risk.

The scone was delicious. I can definitely recommend it!

Yes, I'm grateful that I no longer need to drive for work and, if it became necessary, I could just take my car off the road and manage without it. xx

  10. Good news about the retina, but it still sounds quite painful. I hope it heals up quickly. The flower photo looks lovely.

    1. Thanks Sharon. It's not painful thankfully but troublesome because of continually flashing lights on the edge of my vision. It'll take between 6 months and a year for my brain to teach itself to ignore the lights and floaters, and then I won't be troubled by them any more.

Thanks re the flower photo. xx
