295/365: rainy day!

I got wet through yesterday which wasn't what I was expecting for a day spent indoors avoiding the rain. I'd completely forgotten that an estimator was coming to quote for the replacement garage door and ended up outside in the rain for quite some time while she measured up. I felt thoroughly miserable as I waited, getting wetter and wetter with the rain dripping down my neck, and the price quoted didn't help to cheer me up at all. It was a lot more than I was expecting ... a lot more ... but I'll wait for the other companies to quote before I have to make a decision. The good news is that there isn't a shortage of the specific door I want, so that's one plus to keep in mind. I cheered up after a warming shower and then, wrapped in my oodie, I enjoyed a mug of hot chocolate.

I don't have anything planned for today so it's likely to be a lazy day. I do need to catch up on comments and reading all your blogs so will do the rounds later, and afterwards will maybe give some thought to meal ideas for November. The grocery delivery was great this time, nothing missing and no substitutions, so I have plenty of ingredients to play about with and also a few of the Simply Cook kits to use up. I'll use one of the kits today so will be enjoying a plate full of jambalaya later on. It's my second time of using this particular kit as I enjoyed it so much I added it straight away to my October box after trying it in September, and it will also be in my November box ... I love jambalaya!

  1. I know it's stating the obvious but couldn't you have stood in the garage while she measured up, it's a shame you had to get so wet. Me too, walking Tilly, it was fine when I set out and then the rain lashed it down. Do have a relaxing weekend.

    1. I wanted her to measure up from the inside but she said she couldn't and because it was so wet she couldn't put her iPad on the floor while she took the measurements so I was holding it - she was filling in a form as she worked. We finished off inside the garage though.

Dog walking doesn't sound as much fun in the rain!

I hope you have a lovely weekend too xx

  2. Sorry you had to get wet in the rain while the person measured your garage door! Sorry, too, that the quote was much more than you expected. Hope the other quotes are more reasonable. Hope you have a relaxed day today and enjoy your jambalaya. Now you have me humming that song about jambalaya, crawfish pie, and file gumbo! :D

    1. I couldn't work out what the song was so had to Google it. Kicking myself now ... how could I forget the Carpenters? Hope you have a good day too xx

  3. I loved the Carpenters. She had such a lovely voice.
I'm sorry you got so wet and even more that the price was a shock - things have gone up so much! It's worth getting what you really want though, in the longer term.
I'm glad you are enjoying the Simply Cook meals. Me too. xx

    1. Me too. Her voice is instantly recognisable isn't it?
The quote is £300 more than I was expecting which, thinking about it today, is probably a true reflection of how prices have increased.

The Simply Cook meals I've had so far have all been good. I use them for my 'treat' meals instead of getting a take away. xx

  4. I've been pondering this thinking, "But...but..." and just now the penny dropped that the door was CLOSED! Glad the oodie came into its own and hope the garage can be done to satisfaction, at a sensible price, some time. I fear things aren't going to improve in the short term and keep dithering and thinking it might be better to bite the bullet before costs rise even more! I'm another who can't hear the word "jambalaya" without bursting into song.

    1. Ah! I've read back over what I'd written and it would have been so much clearer if I'd explained that the up and over door is broken, locked shut thanks to S' strongman act, and can't be opened until the day it's to be replaced! I'm waiting for some more quotes when I get back from London but, expensive as it is, it's the cheapest it's going to be so I will go ahead and get the work done in in November.

I've been singing that song all day ... I blame Bless! 😂 xx

  6. Oh no that sounds horrible! Glad you were able to warm up after. I hope the other quotes come in a little lower!
