This Week ...

I have a lot to fit in this week but this will be my last packed week for a while.

Entertainment & Socialising: Choir has finished now until the end of August so my Monday evenings are free and, as the Monday online classes are also finished, it'll be a good day to fit in some day trips. Today, as it will be raining on and off all day, I'll stay local and take a look at the Art Trail.

I'm meeting with L on Wednesday afternoon and will also meet J, day still to be decided, as she is away for most of next week. Hopefully I'll get to see Joy as well but we haven't rearranged a date yet.

It's also going to be a TV free week!

Online Classes & Talks

Wednesday: Nutrition Club

Thursday: Indian Cooking

Friday: Nutrition Focus

Health and Fitness:

I'm aiming for at least a 30 minute walk every day and, instead of the 20 minute exercise videos, will try out an online Tai Chi class.

I'm still trying to get an in person doctor's appointment.

Home and Garden

Home: The focus this week is to place the rest of the adverts for the items I want to sell. If everything sells I won't need to use the local auction house but that's still an option if I need it. I'm going to contact the local music shop to see how much I'd get if I sold my unwanted instruments but I'm not sure if this is the best time to be selling, following the earlier ban on brass and woodwind playing under the lockdown restrictions. If I'm unlikely to realise what they are worth I'd be better off giving them to Misses C and H instead.

Garden: M will be here on Friday. There are a few more new plants to be dealt with - the remaining salvia for the centre bed, three pink marguerites for summer colour in pots, and the perennial nemesias should be here by Friday as well. There's always weeding and deadheading to do and I also want to chat about when she wants to tackle re-grouting and power washing the patio.

I also want to devote some time to finish reorganising the garage, work out what still needs to be sold, and arrange for the collection of the remaining items for disposal.

Food: The meal plan will need quite a bit of tweaking to accommodate the bits and pieces currently defrosting in the fridge. I had problems with the kitchen freezer so emptied the contents into the garage freezer while I defrosted the kitchen one, but there wasn't room for everything so some of it ended up in the fridge and will need to be used up quickly.

End of Lockdown Adventures

  • this week: catch up with my sister, and have a look at the local Art Trail
  • by the end of July: complete at least two of the local treasure trails starting with Corsham and Bradford on Avon
  • within twelve months: complete a minimum of twelve items on my post lockdown wish list, aiming to complete at least one thing on the list in July. July's adventures will include:
    • a trip to the theatre - ticket booked for end July (but it'll depend on how safe the arrangements feel on the day!)
    • visiting the lavender farm
    • visiting Farleigh Castle

and finally, Hobbies:

Reading: still reading No One Home, Tim Weaver. I seem to have lost my reading mojo again!

Italian: 15 - 20 minutes daily practice, following the Open Learn course

Piano or flute: 30 minutes daily practice

Sewing: making a skirt

Family Tree: concentrate on my maternal grandfather's line

  1. That is a busy week for you. I hope you manage to get your face-to-face doctor's appointment, they don't seem to want to see anyone anymore. I had a telephone appointment with a GP who told me she was working from home which I found surprising to say the least. That's my worry having two freezers if one were to break down and I hope you don't have to waste any food. Both my freezers are frost-free so I don't have to defrost them anymore. Have a good week.

    1. I won't waste any food. The stuff that had to go in the fridge is uncooked so I do some bulk cooking and then refreeze in portions. Both my freezers are supposed to be frost free but every now and then the kitchen one has a funny five minutes and defrosting solves the problem.

I'm not having much luck getting a doctor's appointment! That's very surprising to hear your GP works from home.

  2. It all sounds absolutely amazing and fingers crossed for that appointment.
What a pain about that freezer. I hope not too much needs to be thrown out.

    1. I'll be able to use all the stuff that's defrosted. It was mostly uncooked meat so today now has to be bulk cooking day and I can refreeze in meal sized portions.

No luck with the appointment so far but it's not really my priority today. Now I have all that food to sort out, kitchen duties come first today. The defrosted freezer is working properly - the door wouldn't close but now does, so there will be plenty of room for the extra portions once cooked and cooled.

  3. A very busy week planned, no wonder there's no time for TV. I am on the high end of meal planning right now, but it has been quite a roller coaster ride. Did you find any yoga or Pilates uTubes you enjoyed?

    1. I'm a bit fed up with TV lately, just watching repeats of repeats. I'm wanting to get back to what I used to do, only turning the TV on if there is a programme I really want to watch rather than just half watching things I have no real interest in. I'm having a TV free week to see how I choose to fill my time instead.

Meal planning is going well, this week being an exception. I cooked plenty of choices today which will keep me fed this week as well as some to freeze, and I will use this week's meal plan for next week's meals instead.

No, I didn't find and Pilates or yoga videos that I particularly enjoyed. It's something I need to revisit as there's so much choice I'm sure I will find something.

  4. Sounds like you have a busy week ahead with lots of things to look forward to! :) Hope you are able to get an appointment to see the doctor, soon.

I'm glad the kitchen freezer is working well, again, and you were able to cook what wouldn't fit into the other freezer and can now freeze the prepared meals.

Good luck with the TV free week. I found myself weaned off TV when I had to spend my time in bed due to sciatica. Instead, I watched some online videos! I just finished watching a series about the Celts and in one episode, they showed one of the white chalk horses you had mentioned in your blog posts. :)

    1. My doctor is involved with Covid vaccinations this week so I have booked a telephone consultation for next Monday. When I speak to him I am hoping he will book me in for a face to face appointment.

Yes, the freezer is okay again and I have a few more, quite a few more!, meals to enjoy over the next couple of months.

That's interesting, did they mention which white horse it was? TV is such a time waster when I'm not getting any real enjoyment from it. Last night, I was focused properly on the things I chose to entertain myself and gained much more satisfaction as a result. I also slept better but I don't know if that's linked to no TV or not.

    2. The white horse of Uffington, on the Berkshire Downs (The Celts, BBC Series, Episode 3, on YouTube).

    3. The Uffington Horse is just over the border in Oxfordshire, so about 45 miles away. I've been there several times and it's on the list for another visit at some stage. It's maintained by the National Trust and I'm hoping to visit all the chalk figures over time although the Uffington horse is difficult to photograph.
