278/365: gladioli

The only thing in the diary for today is this morning's nutrition class, looking at the impact of acid versus alkali forming foods, and a possibility of meeting up with J this afternoon. Both things are doubtful as I'm not sure that I'm in the mood for the nutrition topic and J has hinted that she may not be well enough to come out to play, a result of her grandson generously sharing his sore throat and cough!

Yesterday I finished off my list of chores for this week and bought the bits of shopping that I needed so there's nothing that must be done today. This is actually a good thing as buying the oodie has highlighted an issue I hadn't considered ... the thing is enormous and I'm planning to get at least one maybe two more which will be equally enormous and combined they will almost merit their own postcode ... a bit of an exaggeration but you see the problem. So, where am I going to keep them? There's no room in my wardrobe or the airing cupboard even for one and when the warmer weather returns I will need to be storing all three so today's fun little task is to come up with a sensible solution utilising whatever I have at home already.

As for the rest of the day, it'll probably be spent reading - I need to finish the U3A book group choice ready for next week and want to make a start on the new Richard Osman book. There's nothing on TV that I want to watch and I've suspended my piano lessons for a while so there's nothing to stop me curling up on the sofa and losing myself in the story.

  1. I'm enjoying seeing your gladioli - mine didn't do anything, this year!
Sounds like you'll be having a relaxed day! I hope you find a good storage spot for the oodies! Maybe you can get some vacuum seal bags to store them during the warm season? In the winter, hang them from hooks behind doors so that they are handy to wear whenever needed! :)

    1. My existing gladioli flowered about six weeks ago. The ones flowering now were planted too late, or so we thought, to expect them to flower this year but it seems we were wrong and they are doing their best. I love the colour of this one.

I will be able to store the oodies in the empty underbed drawer that I'd forgotten about. I want to avoid the vacuum bags if I can as the ones I had before just turned out to be a waste of money and didn't stay flattened.

  2. I'm sorry you're not having piano lessons - did I miss the post where you mentioned that?
To store the oodies, could you get one of those bags that you suck all the air out of and compress them? xx

    1. I don't really like those vacuum bags - the ones I've had before didn't do what they were supposed to do. I've solved the problem anyway as I remembered that one of the underbed drawers is empty, so they can be kept there when not needed. xx

  3. I agree wardrobe space can be a a problem and I am terrible at decluttering clothes. I hope you find a suitable storage space for all three oodies. Enjoy your day of relaxation.

    1. I only have a single wardrobe with hanging space and a single cupboard with shelves and baskets, but they are both full. The oodies will live in the underbed drawer that I'd forgotten about.

  4. We have wardrobe space, but I don't think I dare get bear a Winnie the Pooh oodie. He is a very serious fifteen year old and wants everything black. I hope you enjoy the reading, and take care!

  5. Lovely colour on your gladioli. Mine haven't flowered at all, yet my neighbour who had the same bulbs as we had has the prettiest colours peach, lemon etc. I wonder why?
I have managed to fit my fleecy hoodies in the draw, but it's a very tight fit, something I have just thought of is that we will only usually be keeping 2 in the draws in the winter as we will be wearing one. Helen S.

    1. That's strange. Maybe they'll flower next year.

My solution is to use the underbed drawer that is currently empty to store them during the warmer months when I won't be wearing them. During the winter they can live on the hooks I'll put on the back of the spare room door.

  6. Such a pretty pink gladioli. Curled up with a good book sounds like a good day. I've been reading about "nightshade" vegetables. There was an interesting tip about which foods (vegetables) you start off in cold water & bring to the boil (grown underground) & those that are added to boiling water (grown above ground).

    1. I've just finished testing for the nightshade vegetables for histamine intolerance and surprisingly got a bad reaction to aubergines. Fortunately it's not something I particularly like but would eat it if included in a meal ... now I have the perfect excuse to never eat it again!

I can remember being taught that tip by Mum and also in cooking lessons at school. 😊

  7. We have four 'Oodies', I have the Koala and the Quokka, husband has one plain grey, one plain navy blue.
We bought them in the twin pack bundle, and saved £70 by doing this. A saving on the four amounted to £140, which although they still cost me £196, was a considerable saving,
Just a word of warning, they're not recommended for tumble drying, so if you're thinking of tumbling them, be very careful, they're too expensive to ruin!
There's a video on the Oodie website showing how to roll them up for storage, they can be squished quite small, and then crammed into the corner of a wardrobe, or at least ours are! X

    1. Thanks, I hadn't realised that they are not recommended for tumble drying. That'll save me ruining it at the first wash! Also thanks for the mention of the video on rolling for storage.

  8. At first I thought you had mistyped hoodie, but then I knew typos rarely, if ever, appear here. So I googled it, and now see it is a thing - a brand name, popular thing. I think these may be on my Christmas shopping list. Gorgeous gladioli!!
