106/365: reading 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse'

It's supposed to be another beautiful spring day so I'd like to go out for a walk later on. I don't plan to stray too far from home so I have the choice of the paths around the village or the marina and canal ... it'll all depend who's out and about. However, before I can do that I have to sort out a problem with Tesco ... the problem being that they failed to deliver my order last night but it is showing as delivered in their app and the money has been taken from my bank account. By the time I realised they weren't coming their customer service department was closed so that's my first job this morning ... they open at 10 am.

'Easter from King's' is on TV tonight so I will hopefully be okay to watch it, but if not, will definitely listen to it. It's not really required viewing for me in the way that their Christmas service is, but I love all the music so know I will enjoy it.

So, a bit of problem solving and then another quiet day just recharging my batteries, ready for next week. I hope you all have a lovely time whatever you are doing today.

  1. Oh no what a worry about your Tesco order, I've never had that happen. I've found their customer service to be very good and I do hope they can get to the bottom of where your delivery was delivered. The least they can do is to get your replacement items delivered to you today. I hope it all gets sorted quickly and you can enjoy a restful day x

    1. They've always been very reliable before so I hope it can be sorted out easily. I spoke to the customer service and they have passed my query to the local store for investigation. I'm waiting to hear from them but am not feeling too optimistic at the moment.

  2. Oh, I hope you are able to figure out what happened to your grocery delivery, Eileen! Maybe it got delivered to the wrong address!

Hope you have a lovely rest of the day and a nice walk. I'll be taking it easy, too; it'll be my daughter's last full day at home.

    1. They are currently investigating - more detail in my response to Eileen (above).

I hope you have a lovely day with your daughter. It'll take you both a while to adjust to being apart again, won't it. xx

    1. Well ... three phone calls to customer services later and part of the order has been delivered. They didn't contact me to see if I was going to be in and forgot to bring all the frozen items! I don't know what is happening about the rest of the order so I will have to phone customer services again! Also the lemons were mouldy and the eggs were broken. I'm seriously not impressed.

In a way it has done me a favour. I've shopped with Tesco for convenience and I don't deny that their delivery system was a huge help during the lockdowns, but I am able to shop in person again and will be able to save money by doing that. I'm comparing prices to see which supermarket will be the best for the items I buy regularly.

    2. Update ... just spoken to customer services again and they have issued a refund for the missing frozen items, and for the lemons and eggs. I just have to wait for the money to reach my bank account and then I can say it's over and done with!

    3. Sounds as if your order fell out of the crate and spent the night forgotten in the depths of the delivery van! Glad you have not lost out financially although some gesture on their part wouldn't have gone amiss! You might have been counting on having everything on the day you ordered it for. Anyway, sorted now and I hope you find somewhere that suits you for the future. We have used Tesco delivery and/or click and collect throughout COVID but I must admit I much prefer choosing, especially my fresh produce, for myself and have done so every three weeks or so, more or less throughout.

    4. Apparently the reason it wasn't delivered on Friday was that the driver had exceeded the number of hours he could legally drive without taking a break. Fair enough but there was no explanation to say why there wasn't a courtesy phone call to explain the problem and reschedule. At least I have enough fresh food to keep me going for now and I will have time to go out next week to pick up the missing frozen items. I still have a selection of home cooked meals in the freezer that I can use up so won't go hungry at all! There was no offer of compensation - more the attitude that I should be grateful they had fitted me in the next day!!

It'll be better to make my own choices. All of the big supermarkets are here as well as Aldi and Lidl, so I have plenty of choice and for now will try all of them to see which suits me best

    5. Yup. No call, no attempt to reschedule, how did the eggs get broken, why did the order show as delivered and why did they debit your account if they knew it hadn't been? Sounds like a made-up excuse for incompetence to me! But what I came back to say was that I watched the Easter service. Enjoyed it. Only one descant I didn't like and one reader who almost made me laugh! Gosh is it really a year since the last one?

    6. I'm glad you enjoyed the Easter service. I managed to watch some of it before the flashing lights bothered me.

I can't believe how quickly the last year has gone and how life had changed in that time ... some good changes and some not so good, but overall the good changes are winning out!

  5. Sending hugs. We had an issue with Tesco today, and they are usually pretty good here. I didn't realise that there was an Easter from King's. Thank you - I shall investigate.

    1. I'm feeling much calmer now and I hope you managed to sort your issue with them. I won't use their delivery service again unless the worst happens and another lockdown is ordered, but I really can't see that happening again.

I love some of the Easter hymns. Hope you enjoyed the service if you watched it.

  6. I'm glad you were able to receive an explanation and a partial order delivered and they will reimburse you for the missing frozen items. Poor customer service on their part, I think. I hope you will be able to shop in person safely. Have you considered getting the 2nd booster dose?

    1. Yes, it is poor customer service but they don't seem to be worried about that. I feel quite relaxed about shopping in person now I've done it a few times and if I change my mind, there are other supermarkets that offer deliveries. I would be happy to have the 2nd booster jab but I'm not eligible. In the UK it is only available to the over 75s and to people with compromised immune systems.
