The Simple Woman's Daybook - Tuesday April 7th 2015

FOR TODAY - TUESDAY APRIL 7TH 2015

Outside my window ... it's a lovely spring day.

I am thinking ... that I want to change this blog to give it a new look, a new name (all suggestions welcome!) and possibly move it over to Wordpress.  Blogger is just too frustrating sometimes.  That's what I'm thinking, but I've been through this before and didn't make the changes, so it probably won't be any different this time!

I am thankful ... for my kind neighbours.  When I went out this morning I found that someone had washed my car for me. I don't know who it was so I'll have to ask around but I am so grateful - it was long overdue and I was dreading doing it.

In the kitchen ... I have a few more things to use up in the freezer and then it's back to some proper weight watching.  After doing so well I've managed to put about half a stone back on, so it'll be back to a combination of the Slimming World eating plan and calorie counting.

I am wearing ... red and white.

I am creating ... mini quizzes to use in my lessons next term.

I am going ... to visit the garden centre.  I can feel my Christmas gift vouchers begging to be spent!

I am wondering ... whether I need to have a television set.  I don't watch TV very often now and when I do, I usually watch it on the laptop.

I am reading ... The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North and Frozen Grave by Lee Weeks.  It's been ages since I've had two books on the go at the same time.  I've been going to bed early to try to relax and that's when I read Harry August, and the other one is my carry about and pick up when I have a bit of spare time book for during the day.  So far I'm enjoying both of them.

I am hoping ...  that some health issues will sort themselves out.  I keep feeling dizzy and sometimes actually faint.  Initially it was thought to be due to changes in my blood pressure but that is now back under control and the dizziness is still an issue.  I've been referred for a 24hr ECG to see if there is any sort of problem with my heart so am keeping my finger crossed that there is nothing wrong.

I am looking forward to ... the rest of the week.  It's the second week of the school holiday and I plan to have a good rest.

I am learning ... to use Indian spices properly.  It's always been a bit hit and miss before but my curries are definitely improving.

Around the house ...  it's looking much better.  I've nearly finished sorting all the boxes and am now starting the laborious task of selling the items that I've decided to get rid of. I've started a deep clean of the house and once done, will try to contain the decluttering to the two spare bedrooms.

I am pondering ... the case of Adnan Syed.  I've been hooked on the Serial podcasts for a while now and have recently been reading through the discussions about the case on EvidenceProf and The View from LL2.

One of my favourite things ... the quality of the evening sunlight at this time of year.

A few plans for the rest of the week ...
  • Wednesday: no plans all day, hospital appointment at 5pm.
  • Thursday: no plans all day
  • Friday: no plans all day
  • Saturday: no plans all day
  • Sunday: no plans all day
  • Monday: teaching all day, friends visiting in the evening
  • Tuesday: teaching in the afternoon

A peek into my day ... mostly housework and shopping this morning and I'm updating my blog this afternoon.  I'll be  going out for a meal and the book group meeting this evening, to discuss Elizabeth is Missing but I should be home by 10pm so it'll be another early night.

A favourite quote for today ...

"What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven't happened yet." - unknown

  1. Glad there is light at the end of the decluttering tunnel and hope the health issues turn out to be easily solved. Re. the blog, I've heard good things about Wordpress and apparently it's relatively simple to migrate from Blogger. As to a name, what about something along the lines of "Notes from a Music Teacher"? Hmm. That might need work...
    Enjoy your week off!

    1. Thanks, that's a good one, but I'd be worried that it might suggest a focus on teaching and my blog isn't. So far the best we've come up with is 'A Bracelet of Days' (which is my favourite so far), Bits and Pieces, or Simple Pleasures (which I quite like as well).

    2. I see what you mean. Maybe something else with "Notes"... I like your suggestions. "A Bracelet of Days" is lovely. Or how about "Life and Times of a Ballereileen"? :o)

    3. It's probably going to be 'a Bracelet of Days' which is the title of a poem that means a lot to me. I did consider ballereileen, but ........!!

    4. I looked it up - it's the perfect choice.

  2. Hi Eileen, thanks so much for the warm welcome back to blogging. Feels like Ive been away for ages!
How nice was that of one of your neighbours to wash your car. What lovely neighbours you must have. That is one job I don't like doing!:)
I hope your health issues get better quickly.
    Take care of yourself.

  3. No suggestion about the name of the blog, but I have found Word Press to be more tedious than blogger (especially for leaving comments) but whatever you decide, I'm sure it will work out! Hope they can find out what is causing your dizziness.

  4. Hi Eileen, I actually did start a new blog on Wordpress but I didn't really get on with it, so it has been abandoned. Blogger has issues with the colours of photos, I know, but apart from that (and I'm sure its probably only the poster that notices, rather than the reader) I much prefer Blogger, so decided to stay put. A change of name and background is always a good thing, and a name that has its own special meaning is one that you wont get fed up with.
Lovely neighbour, hope you manage to find out who it was. Joy x x

  5. Hi Eileen - what a kind neighbour! I hope you get to the bottom of the dizziness. I won't offer any amateur diagnoses!
I loved the quote you posted - just wonderful. I have been allowing negative people and their comments to bug me the last couple of days and the quote was just what I needed. Thanks Eileen - enjoy the rest of your vacation from school. Carole
