210/365: another variety of fuchsia

I have a question for you ... how do you store your freezer boxes and Tupperware containers please? Do you store boxes and lids separately or with lids on, and do you stack them in piles or keep them all in a bigger storage crate? I made a start on moving the freezer boxes and Tupperware to a shelf in one of the new cupboards but it looks a mess already and I'm not convinced it's the best use of the space. I have lots of these containers for the batch cooking and I've never really found a good way to store the ones that aren't in use.

That was about all I did yesterday and I didn't make much progress on that at all. The rest of my day was shared between piano and reading. I still have to look at my finances and get my act together about meal planning but that's for another day now. This morning it's the nutrition focus on nutrition to counteract 'inflammageing' and then I'm off to the Ladies That Lunch meal, which I'm looking forward to. I can't remember what time it finished last month but if it does finish early enough I'll also be meeting J for coffee and catch up.

  1. I have a small but deep plastic basket (bought from B&M or similar) which holds the lids upright. The boxes are stacked beside it, and this avoids that avalanche of lids landing on you. I promised myself ages ago that I would throw away all the takeaway boxes and invest in the stacking Lock'n'Lock, but it hasn't happened!

    1. I'm the same and have promised myself lock'n'lock boxes but haven't got round to doing anything about it yet. Until I do I will try your approach. Many thanks.

  2. I just put my unused boxes one inside the other with the lids stacked separately. I have them in use most of the time so probably don't have as many as you have. Enjoy your Ladies That Lunch meal today, I will look forward to reading how it went and what you had to eat :)

    1. Thanks for this. When it's time to do some more batch cooking I have a lot of empty boxes to store, so I need to get myself organised.

The lunch was lovely thanks ...details in tomorrow's post.

  3. My bigger ones go into a cloth basket, designed for use in a bathroom but perfect size. The smaller ones are in a drawer, closer to where I use them.

    1. Thanks Marlene. I think I'll have to look for a basket of some description to help with my storage.

  4. I allow all my plastic containers to be free range, which appears to encourage overnight breeding so I end up with lids & containers of different sizes & shapes. And while this form of housekeeping appears easy going, it's not. It's frustrating & annoying. I do not recommend this style of corralling Tupperware.

I'm looking forward to suggestions of how to contain the containers & lids & yet still have easy access to them. Thank you for this public service alert :)

  5. Freezer boxes, well I have two methods of storage for these. First one the bases are stacked one in to the other and the lids are on top held together with an elastic band. The smaller bases are again stacked on in to the other, but these lids are put in a plastic basket bought from Wilko, I actually like the second method as this stops everything falling over. The good thing is I can only have as many as fit in this cupboard otherwise these would also breed. Hope someone comes up with a great storage method. Helen S.

    1. Thanks Helen. I'm going to try the stacking method with lids in a basket to start with and see how that goes.

  6. I'm late to the Tupperware party! I have some that are free-range like Mary-Lou's, but, the majority of them are corralled in a plastic basket, nested as much as possible, with their lids tucked into the sides of the basket. I've read in organizing articles that they should be stored with their lids on, but, I don't have enough shelf space/drawer space for that. I always seem to have too many until I start storing or distributing food and then, I don't have enough!

Looking forward to hearing about the Ladies That Lunch event. :)

    1. Thanks for joing the party Bless. ☺️
I have the same problem and seem to have too many containers until I batch cook and then I don't have enough! I don't think I have the room to store them all with lids on so will nest and stack them with the lids organised in a basket.

  7. I nest my plastic containers inside one another, and then the lids are stacked directly underneath them. I do the same for my glass containers which have the plastic suction lids. I use glass for storing things in the fridge that will be microwaved to rewarm. I don't freeze all that much, so I have a lot fewer of the plastic containers. This is one area where I did downsize quite a bit as I just wasn't using them. I do limit myself to a single cabinet for this kind of thing to keep it in check.
