199/365: an empty dining room
(this is a possibility for the SPSH No 13, all gone, empty)

I am feeling very happy today! Everything has gone according to plan so far. I sold the table and chairs at 10 am yesterday morning, the IKEA delivery arrived at 12:30 pm, and I sold the dresser at 2:30 pm. I did forget to buy the wall fixings but S says he has plenty so I'll pay for, or replace, what he uses and so all that's left to do now is to wash the floor and find a new home for the two pictures. I have all week to do that so I can stop worrying as the room will definitely be ready for S to build and fit the units on Saturday.

I watched The Railway Children film yesterday ... the proper version with Jenny Agutter playing the part of Bobbie. I think I'm getting more sensitive as I get older as I kept tearing up through the entire film and cried real tears at the "Daddy, my Daddy" station scene! I was an emotional wreck by the time the film was finished!

I think it's supposed to be the hottest day today with temperatures up to 36°c in this area. I'm still hoping they've got it wrong but I won't be doing anything much, just in case. I'm supposed to be trying the WI this evening but don't think I'll be going if it is that hot. I'll phone A later this morning to see what she wants to do but I honestly think the best place to be is at home until the temperature drops again on Wednesday. It's a bit of a shock that temperatures are expected to be so high in the UK. We're not used to it at all so I hope you can all stay cool and safe today.

  1. They're predicting 40C here which is a bit extreme for me so, like you, I'm doing my best to chill.
I think my sweet corn likes it though!

How wonderful that everything has worked out so well, the table, etc all sold and the new stuff arrived. Now I'm looking forward to seeing it with the new furniture.

That bit of the Railway Children always gets to me too - it is wonderfully done. xx

    1. I've had the patio doors open to allow some coolish air into the house. The sun doesn't move round until much later so it's been fine so far. 40°c doesn't bear thinking about ... if you read Bless' comment below, she's given an excellent tip to help cool down.

I'm so pleased that all the furniture sold so quickly and I now have the room emptied for S to work in.

It is well done, isn't it? xx

  2. Well done on your sales and delivery arriving all in one day, those positive vibes did their job in spadefuls. I see what you mean about having an odd shaped room but better than boring old square rooms, I like it :) I've never watched the Railway Children but sounds like you enjoyed it :) It was 29°c here on the north Wales coast when I checked yesterday afternoon exactly the same as in London. I'm staying firmly at home for the next couple of days, fan on, feet up!

    1. It's all worked out perfectly. I'll have to remember to ask for positive vibes in the future!

It is an odd shaped room. I'll try to get photos of the rest of the room when the work is finished.

I can definitely recommend the original Railway Children film but be prepared to get emotional at times.

Good idea to stay at home for the next few days. I'll be doing the same!

  3. I've been sobbing my way through the railway children for ever! Daren't go to the cinema to watch the new one.
    Have a cool day

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one! The new one is in the cinema this week ... I'm trying to persuade friend L to go with me.

  4. Freya's school is staying open all day, and I have to pick her up at 3.20! NOT looking forward to that at all!

    1. Does she have to wear her uniform or are they allowed to wear PE kit instead? I don't envy you having to be out at that time. Ice lolly time do you think?

  5. I watched half of the Railway Children yesterday too. What a charming film. How very polite everyone was, I wish people were as super polite these days.

    1. It was a completely different way of life wasn't it. There's so much anger and entitlement these days.

  6. Oh, that emptying of the dining room worked out so well! It's a great possibility for the SPSH prompt!
Do take it easy and try to stay cool during your heatwave! If you put a small slightly dampened towel in the freezer, you can apply it to your neck and pulse points to help cool down during the hottest times. Keep a couple of towels in the freezer so you'll be able to switch them out.

    1. I have a couple of other ideas for that prompt so I'll see which works out best.

Many thanks for the suggestion. I'm off to put some towels in the freezer.

  7. Yeah for quick sales & prompt deliveries. Another project done & I am sure many of those annoyances & tolerances dealt with! I concur with Bless' suggestions for cooling down, we have also tried the bowl full of ice with the fan blowing over it towards us. I like the empty photo ;)

    1. I was hoping the furniture would sell quickly but am still pleasantly surprised that it did. I couldn't have asked for a better result! At the moment I am keeping the living room cool even though it is heating up outside - thermal curtains are keeping the heat out and earning their cost, although to be fair they do just as good a job keeping the heat in in the winter.

  8. You have been busy, well done on selling the furniture so quickly. I look forward to seeing the photographs of the completed project. Hope you manage to stay cool to-day, our curtains are staying closed all day and I will be enjoying a long read and some ice lollies. Helen S.

    1. Thanks Helen. There will definitely be photos. So far I'm doing fine and hope it's the same for you. Snap! A good book features in my plans for the rest of the day!

  9. Even our news was covering the expected extreme heat over there, so do take care, won't you. Bravo on getting the dining room cleared out so quickly. Your two framed prints there remind me that I have been planning on downsizing the prints in my dining room to see if it makes the room look bigger. Friend L and I are checking out a new consignment shop later this week and if it is a good one, I have several items I will take there for sale -- including the larger dining room prints.

    1. Don't worry I'm saying indoors and am, so far, winning the battle to keep the living room cool.

Hope the downsizing of prints goes well.

  10. You have done amazing things! Please take care of yourself in this heat. Staying home and doing nothing is good.

    1. Thanks Lyssa and don't worry, I am being sensible and staying indoors. I've cancelled going to the WI tonight ... I have no plans to venture out until the temperature drops again. Hope you're okay as I know you struggle with the heat?
