189/365: cosmos and gaura

Well yesterday was an odd sort of day. I ended up doing quite a bit of what I wanted to do but ran out of time after spending most of the afternoon watching the TV broadcast about Boris Johnson's resignation.

I've booked my place at the next Ladies That Lunch Meal, phoned A to arrange to meet and play a game or two of Scrabble together and contacted the WI about us attending their next meeting on the 18th. I've also ordered three Treasure Trails using a 3 for 2 offer and so saving myself £10, and have arranged to go to the cinema with L next week. It's J's birthday next week so we're going out for a meal to celebrate that, and I also need to arrange for Joy to come round to see the garden. With regular activities and things I've already arranged, the diary is looking pleasantly busy for the next few weeks.

Clothes shopping online wasn't going too well until I tried Joy's suggestion of Cotton Traders, and I have now ordered a skirt, trousers, cardigan, and blouse to try on at home. I'm not sure about their sizing so will wait to try this lot and see how it fits, but if it's okay there are quite a few other items I like and will be buying. Lyssa mentioned Bonmarche, which I'd forgotten about. Their store in town has closed down but I always liked their stuff so will have a look online. This clothes shopping lark could end up being expensive!

Today is garden day and M will be here this morning to shoehorn all the extra plants into their new homes. I have warned her!

  1. I find Cotton Traders pretty good for sizing but, as you say, you never can tell. I like their stuff myself - down to earth, nothing too fancy, I live in their T shirts and the quality is fine! I'd forgotten about Bon Marche - we do have a shop in town so maybe, next time I go in . . . xx

    1. I've ordered a selection from Cotton Traders to check the fit as they don't have a petite range. I liked a lot of their stuff so am hoping it's okay for me. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Bon Marche do some nice things as well. xx

    1. Thanks Sue, there's still lots of blank pages in the diary though!

  3. Yes I've been glued to the TV and reading online about Boris Johnson's resignation. You certainly are filling up your diary with exciting events, well done to you. I used to like Bon Marche but our nearest branch closed down too, such a shame and I will have to check them out online, never thought of doing that.

    1. Now the worry about who we will get next!

I'm looking forward to the next couple of months with all the events I've added to the diary. There's still plenty of empty pages in the diary but I think I've sorted out enough for starters.

I'd forgotten about Bon Marche as well but Lyssa reminded me.

  4. Beautiful picture of the flowers; they mix together so well!

The news was quite fascinating, even for me watching from this side of the pond! I imagine it was even more interesting to you and others there!

You have certainly found a lot of fun activities to add to your diary! I think you will be pleasantly busy in the coming days.

Sounds like the online clothes shopping is off to a good start! I hope all the items you ordered fit you well and you are happy with them.

Have fun gardening with M, tomorrow! :)

    1. Thanks Bless, the flowers look lovely together, don't they. It came as a bit of a shock to me as I honestly thought he wouldn't resign, so interesting times ahead! I've tried to be sensible about how many events I've arranged so hopefully it will work out fine. There are still lots of blank spaces in the diary so there's scope to do more if I feel like it. M has finished now, everything is planted and it's looking good. 😀

Thanks re. the shopping. At least returns are easy to do if it doesn't fit!

  5. Busy Busy Busy ... lots of social time scheduled; certainly making up for all those lockdown times. So in BoJo's resignation speech, I did not hear any apologies for HIS part in the crash down. The letter home from his old school master is getting a lot of attention for his forecast of Boris's current behaviour. I'll say no more.... OK one more thing - I just hope our PM, aka SockBoy is paying attention!

    1. It sounds a lot when written in a list like that but I will still have plenty of time on my own with nothing planned.

I think the school master's assessment of BJ is very accurate. I'm just hoping the next leader will do better.

  6. I watched the resignation with interest. Never a fan of the man but (as a Brit living in the US) I find the two systems really fascinating. In the US you can't even get rid of the guy when he's as horrible as Trump and even now he's talking about another run. He certainly wouldn't even have been able to talk and have to answer questions from the opposition. Ack - could go on and on, but enough.

Sounds like you're planning quite a lot of social activities, good for you!

    1. They're very different systems aren't they! I don't really understand the US one at all. I'm just glad BJ is out and now we have to wait to see who will replace him. Some of the people putting their names forward are just as bad!

  7. An ex-colleague of mine used to buy from Cotton Traders a lot. The clothes seemed quite nice. The political thing is a mess isn't it? I can't believe it has taken this long or had to get this bad for something to happen. Now I worry that we are in the midst of several international crises and there is not much else to chose from ... in any party IMO!

    1. They have good reviews so am keeping my fingers crossed that the items that I've ordered actually fit me.

I feel the same as you about the political mess. There's nobody that fills me with confidence about being the next leader and even if it eventually forces a general election, the other parties are just as bad. As you say, not much else to choose from!

  8. For me, clothes shopping is more boom and bust. I don't buy anything for literally years and then buy everything twice. It evens itself out. I think you have some wonderful things set up. I'm really looking forward to hearing about them.

    1. I haven't bought many clothes for years and desperately need to sort my wardrobe out. I don't really like clothes shopping so the opportunity to do it online makes it bearable and at least I can try everything on in my own home.

I'm hoping all the new social plans work out and I will report back on the blog.
